November 3, 1950

• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “The Savage Horde” with William Elliott and Adrian Booth and “Arizona” with William Holden, Warren William, and Porter Hall.

• A chicken house and two-room structure were demolished by fire near the farm home occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Borchert and family about five miles west of Tarkio on Highway 275 Sunday afternoon. However, efforts of the rural fire department were successful in saving the home.

• Singing with Paul Whiteman and his famous orchestra are the former Charlene Barnes of Tarkio and her husband, Merrill J. Ostrus. They can be seen on a television show each Sunday evening.

• The Westboro Wildcats defeated the Fairfax Bulldogs 51-25 last Friday night, maintaining their undefeated status this season.

November 6, 1975

• The Tarkio College Booster Club has presented an isokinetic minigym to the athletic department. The minigym consists of a power rack, which is used to build muscular strength, and the leaper, designed for development of the glutes and legs and used specifically to increase vertical jumping and leg strength.

• The Tarkio Indians ended their regular season with a 34-6 victory over the South Holt Knights, an 8-0 overall record and a 7-0 conference record to be named the 275 Conference champions.

• Any person 60 years of age and older will now be able to attend Tarkio College tuition free. The only cost would be an application fee of $10 and the cost of any materials that might be necessary for the course.

• Splendid cooperation of the United Telephone Company, St. Joseph Light and Power, R.E.A., and the Lonnie Nance-Midwest Movers brought the North Polk Schoolhouse to its historic museum site at the corner of 10th and Park in Tarkio last Friday. The trip began at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, from the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rolf and lasted until 3:45 p.m. Friday, October 31, for a total of 12 miles.

• Midwest Agri Services has purchased Herrick Ag Supply Co., Tarkio. Midwest owns Westboro Agri Service and the two facilities will be operated as Westboro-Tarkio Agri Services. Kim Herrick will manage the combined operation.

• An estimated 100 children attended the Tarkio Halloween Party October 31.

November 2, 2000

• Officials dedicated new bridges in Atchison County recently: McEnaney/Stevens/Johnson Bridge, Green/McNaughton/Johnson Bridge,  and Cook/Jones/Broermann/Gibbs Bridge.

• The second grade class at Tarkio Elementary earned a pool party at Heartland Recreation Center by collecting the most canned goods for the food pantry. The second graders collected over 600 items. The contest was sponsored by the Community Awareness Team (C.A.T.) during Red Ribbon Week.

• Jackie and Casey Martin of Tarkio are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Grace Campbell Martin. Grace was born October 27 weighing in at six pounds.

• The Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department responded to a car fire Monday, October 30. The car belonged to Tom Gilliland, an employee at Ag Partners Cooperative.
