November 3, 1950
• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Loaded Pistols” with Gene Autry and “The Girl from Jones Beach” with Ronald Reagan, Virginia Mayo, and Eddie Bracken.
• About three o’clock Friday morning, Fairfax’s night watchman Jess Yocum observed a man attempting to steal a Plymouth car belonging to Miss Pauline Rhea, which was parked at the curb just north of the Catron drug store. When he called out to the man to ask what he was doing, the man ran to an awaiting vehicle occupied by two others and they made their getaway out of town.
• For the best acre of corn grown in the Fairfax-Rupe’s Grove Methodist Church’s Lord’s Acre program, a Corn King engraved cup is to be awarded to Jess Bowman. He grew 135 bushels on his acre of corn and donated it to the church.
• Fairfax’s second annual Halloween Festival drew a large crowd Tuesday evening. Winners were: Youngest Person in Costume – Rodney Dunkle; Oldest Person in Costume – George Wood; Best Costume – Gerald Norton; Best Window Drawing – Jack Kruse.
November 6, 1975
• An empty house northeast of Fairfax was changed into a spook house for the 12th annual Church of God party October 30, sponsored by the WCG. Prizes of apples were given to Don Ray Taylor as a beautiful lady, Chris Sharp in a native costume, Dale Carter as a fat old man, and Nancy Brandt as a little fat farmer.
• Eight members of the Boy Scouts held an overnight campout November 1 and 2. After six weeks’ training in first aid, ropes, knots, and mobilization of the troop, emergency preparedness badges were earned as they also took part in a lost person search and rescue operation.
• Over 125 children attended the Community Club Spook Parade in Fairfax. Children paraded across the stage and then made the trip to Exchange Bank and back to the park.
• Thirty-nine 4-H leaders, spouses, and guests attended the annual event held at the Fairfax School cafeteria Thursday, October 30. After a fine meal by the 49’ers Hobby Club, special recognition was given by Scott Graham, area youth specialist.
November 2, 2000
• The Fairfax Bulldog football team hosted the South Holt Knights in their last home game of the regular season. The senior football players and their parents were recognized during the game. Those in attendance were Jane Conard, Brian Conard, Ron Conard, Barb Simmons, Terry Simmons, Kyle Huffman, Steve Pinnell, Sandra Pinnell, Jim Pinnell, Joy O’Riley, Mike O’Riley, Matt Coleman, and John Coleman.
• The Fairfax Early Childhood students made pumpkin pie during class Wednesday, October 25.
• The Fairfax Sorosis Club held its annual “Guest Day” on Monday, October 30. Guest speaker was Carly Michael, a foreign exchange student from South Africa who is living in Rock Port.
• The Fairfax Lady Bulldogs claimed their fifth consecutive 1-A District 16 Volleyball championship with a win over Nodaway-Holt. They then competed in a sectional tournament in Braymer, Missouri. They defeated the South Holt Lady Knights in the first game, but ultimately lost the championship game to the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs.
