East Atchison was ready to play on Friday night, October 31, taking on Platte Valley in the first round of District 6 action.

In the first half, the Wolves would put up 30 points to Platte Vally’s 20 with Gavyn Irvine putting the first points on the board with a 22-yard run that he bounced to the outside. Braxton Davis-Schoonover caught a pass from Brody Wennihan and took it to the goal line before losing the ball, but Parker Livengood was there to recover for a touchdown.

Platte Valley would stay with the Wolves for the first two positions, answering with an opening drive and help from a kick-off return bringing the score to 14-14. Irvine popped off a 54-yard run, followed by Braxton Davis-Schoonover catching another pass from Wennihan to give the Wolves a 30-14 lead. Platte Valley found the endzone one last time before half-time to bring the score to 30-20.

To start the second half, Platte Valley would try to get back in the game, getting to within two points 30-28, but a quick toss to Irvine, who scrambled 54 yards for the touchdown, and a two-point conversion reception by Brady Umbarger, stretched the lead to 10.

With 1:41 remaining in the game, fullback Tate Johnson put the final points on the board for EA, giving them the lead 44-28. Platte Valley added another touchdown to the score just before the final seconds expired.

East Atchison will move on to play Rock Port in the second round of District 6 action at Blue Jay Stadium this Friday, November 6. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.
