November 10, 1950

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Joan of Ozark” with Judy Canova and Joe E. Brown, “Iroquois Trail” with George Montgomery and Brenda Marshall, and “Jeepers Creepers.”

• This part of the the country got its first snow of the season Thursday night, November 3, and Friday morning, November 4, of last week. A second snowstorm, which struck here Wednesday, was a real blizzard.

• Harry Sly’s big tobacco barn at the east border of Fairfax was destroyed by a fire Tuesday evening, the blaze was discovered by Raymond Mitchell about 8:30. The structure, which was 48×108 feet and a height of 24 feet, carried no insurance and Mr. Sly estimates his loss to be $15,000 and Miles Morgan lost $500 worth of tobacco in the barn.

• The featured Family of the Week is the Mr. and Mrs. Phil Shandy family of Phelps City. Mr. Shandy, who was born in the Phelps City community 59 years ago, has never lived elsewhere. His father, the late Wm. E. Shandy, operated the popular Shandy recreation resort on what was at the time an attractive Nishnabotna River, where fishing was good and boating so excellent that some Tarkio folks even built a permanent clubhouse there.

• Specials at The Rock Port Market include: 3 tall cans of Daricraft milk, 33¢; Hershey bar, 19¢; Folgers, Maxwell House, or Butternut coffee,  79¢ per pound.

November 6, 1975

• Mrs. Betty Crabtree, Rock Port, was elected president of the Atchison County Historical Society November 1 at the Presbyterian Church in Fairfax with around 45 people attending.

• Twenty-nine greenhands were installed into the Rock Port FFA Chapter. They had their hands painted green and had to wear overalls as part of their initiation.

• The sixth and seventh hour semester ag classes at Rock Port High School are learning the fundamentals of wiring. The 24 boys studied basic principals of electricity. At the end of the semester they should all be able to correctly wire a house.

• Stacy, Ryan, and Nancy Ottmann, children of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ottmann, dressed in Bicentennial Halloween costumes and won the first place prize in the brother-and-sister division of the Tarkio Halloween Parade October 31.

• A sign that said “Hi Big Red. Welcome To Tiger Country. Have A Nice Day.” was put up at the Interstate 29 exit at Rock Port and seen by Nebraska drivers heading south to the Mizzou arena. And the Nebraska Cornhuskers and their fans did have a nice day, as they beat the Tigers 30-7.

• Delores Holmes former postal clerk in Rock Port, is the new Postmaster at the Westboro Post Office in Westboro, Missouri.

• The Rock Port Chamber of Commerce is trying to raise money to install a permanent sound system on Main Street. They felt it will be beneficial for events such as Old Fashioned Saturday Night, the Atchison County Fair and Homecoming Parades, and Christmas music.
