The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry board met Monday, November 10, 2025, with 15 members in attendance. Churches represented were Fairfax – Baptist, Methodist, Christian, and Presbyterian; Tarkio – Catholic, Christian, Good News, and Presbyterian; and Westboro – Methodist and St. John’s Lutheran.
In September, 53 families representing 118 individuals were served. In October, 57 families were assisted representing 145 individuals. The numbers of clients needing food assistance is increasing. With the effects of the government shutdown, the board is preparing for a continued increase in numbers of clients, especially with the holidays approaching.
In December, coupons for hams will be distributed according to the family size. Families of one to three will receive a coupon for half of a ham. Families with four or more will receive a coupon for a whole ham. Clients must take their coupons to the Tarkio Hy-Vee to be redeemed.
The Christian Church is opening the food pantry in November. In December, the board members will open the pantry from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on December 9, 11, 16, and 18. On Tuesday, December 9, the pantry will also be open in the evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
If schools are closed due to inclement weather, the food pantry is also closed. If the schools experience a two-hour delay, the food pantry will delay opening until 10:00 to noon.
Donations to the food pantry especially monetary donations are always appreciated. Monetary donations allow the buyer to purchase the most needed items. Donations may be sent to Anita Sutter, treasurer, at 26287 290th Street, Fairfax, MO 64446.
The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry is currently low on the following items: apple juice (64 oz.), tomato juice (46 oz. can), saltine crackers, cake mixes (chocolate or white), sugar (5 lbs.), boxed potatoes (au gratin, scalloped), Chicken Helper, Jello and instant puddings (small boxes), tomatoes (diced, diced chili ready, tomato sauce, rotel), chili style beans, pasta (ramen noodles, macaroni, medium egg noodles, spaghetti), ground beef (1 lb. pkg.), frozen pizzas, and dish soap.
