• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “The Traveling Saleswoman” with Joan Davis and Andy Devine, “Rim of the Canyon” with Gene Autry, “Mystery Street” with Ricardo Montalban and Sally Forrest, “The Flame and The Arrow” with Burt Lancaster and Virginia Mayo, and “The Eagle and the Hawk” with John Payne, Rhonda Fleming, and Dennis O’Keefe.

• Visit downtown Tarkio on Friday, December 1, for the unveiling of the businesses’ beautiful Christmas windows and Christmas street decorations at 7:30 p.m. Santa Claus will bring treats to Tarkio on December 16 and will be at the First National Bank on December 18. The Community Christmas Pageant at the City Park is December 19th.

• The Tarkio College Owls have joined a new conference, Central Church College Conference, organized Saturday at a meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska.

November 27, 1975

• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce announced that the Barnhart family has given permission for a Tarkio directional sign to be placed on their property between the Watson and Highway 136 exits for southbound traffic on I-29.

• The high temperature for the week was 62 degrees on the 19th and the low was 14 degrees on the 22nd, according to Lester Morton, local official weather observer.

• Tarkio Cub Scout Pack 88 held its monthly meeting Monday, November 24. They paid tribute to C.L. “Chub” McAdams, who has retired after 16 years as Cubmaster to the Tarkio pack. He was presented with money, a coffee maker, and a shirt.

• An 18-year-old driver from Independence, Missouri, has probably changed his mind about whether he can afford a $25 speeding bond in Iowa after a 110 mile-per-hour chase from officers through Iowa and Missouri cost him a total of $364.50.

• Tarkio College will present a faculty trio recital on Tuesday, December 2, at Leitch Chapel. William Mansfield will perform “Sonata in A Minor” by Schubert on piano. He, along with Gary Watson on horn and Mary C. Stevenson on violin, will also perform “Horn Trio in E Flat” by Brahms.

• Ken Lebsack, Rexall Drug Co. sales representative, presented a plaque to Evan Evans of Evans Drug Company in Tarkio for his 50 years plus association with Rexall. Evans has operated the drug store in Tarkio since purchasing an interest in the firm in 1924.

November 23, 2000

• Construction on 570 feet of new sewer line in Tarkio began Wednesday, November 1, and is now complete. The new line runs from Park Street north on the remaining block of 8th street and then west, the one block section of Poplar Street. This new line allows for the added connections to the homes located north of Park and Poplar Streets that had not been previously hooked up to the city sewer system.

• The Tarkio High School Athletic Booster Club recently purchased new banners for the high school gym. The banners feature the schools of the 275 Conference.

• Anna Evelyn Viets, a resident of Atchison County for most of her life, will celebrate her 80th birthday with family and friends Sunday, December 3. Evelyn and her husband, Arthur “Hank” Viets, farmed in Atchison County and at one time managed the general store in Dotham.

• Christmas wreaths were hung on Main Street in Tarkio Thursday, November 16. The wreaths were purchased and made by Tarkio Main Street Committee and many community residents and businesses who contributed funds.
