November 24, 1950

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Leather Burner,” “Captive Girl,” “Curtain Call at Cactus Creek,” “One Night In The Tropics,” and “The Little Rascals.”

• James Hugh Caudle, 45, a lifelong resident of the Watson community, passed away November 16. James was born October 3, 1905, on a farm southwest of Watson. He worked as a clerk in the store of the late M.A. McNeal for some time and after his marriage, took up farming.

• To date, 419,204 bushels of 1948 reseal and 1949 corn has been moved from Atchison County to other existing government storage facilities: 174,941 from the site north of Rock Port; 136,098 bushels from Fairfax; 37,748 bushels from Tarkio; and 70,416 bushels from Westboro.

• Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bungenstock reported that their son, LaVon, called to tell them he is temporarily back in the States from Japan. His U.S. Navy ship is in San Francisco loading up with supplies and will leave again for Japan the last of November. The ship has been taking supplies from a base in Japan to Inchon, Korea.

November 20, 1975

• The Sweet Adelines’ bake sale will be held Saturday, November 22, at the Rock Port Plumbing building. Stop by for pies, cakes, rolls, and fresh hens for baking.

• Cox’s Conglomerations: “Work for the Lord. The pay isn’t much but the retirement is out of this world.”

• Wimpey The Clown from London, England, visited the Rock Port schools November 14, he performed for the elementary students doing various things such as trick cycling, acrobatics, and tumbling.

• Harmon-Stephens Electronics in Rock Port is advertising a free turkey with the purchase of any color TV, from $259.95 and up.

• Eight seniors and 15 juniors took part in cleaning business windows on November 1 as a gesture of appreciation for all that the business people in Rock Port have done for them.

• It won’t be long before the mobile concrete plant will be moving on as the paving of I-29 nears completion. Only 1,300 feet of the main line of interstate remained to be paved Monday. Now there are just two ramps to pave at Craig plus some handwork on tying in the ramps with the main line and aprons at the bridge approaches. There is a total of 40.3 miles from the Iowa line to Mound City.

• Damond Wennihan harvested a 7-point non-typical buck that weighed between 230-250 pounds. This was his first year of hunting.

• The Atchison County Fair Board honored Don Mobley with a plaque recognizing that the new covered show arena at the fairgrounds in Rock Port was named for him – Mobley Arena. MaryBeth Bredensteiner was recognized with a plaque for her 17 years of service as Atchison County Fair Board secretary.

• Mary Jane and Jeff Weydert, along with their son, Anthony, of Rock Port are happy to welcome Patrick James to the family. Patrick was born Friday, November 10, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

• Aid Association for Lutherans is very appreciative of all who contributed to the Maureen Moore spaghetti dinner benefit Sunday, November 12. More than $4,000 was donated. Wally Riebesell won a Christmas wreath from Clay Pot.
