• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Stampede,” “12 O’Clock High” with Gregory Peck and Hugh Marlowe, and “Thieves’ Highway.”

• W.R. Hawkins fell from a moving pickup truck Tuesday night of last week and was made unconscious by the fall, but suffered no broken bones or serious injuries. Mr. Hawkins and his son, Glenn, were transporting a calf in a rack in the back of the pickup. The calf tried to leap out of the rack and Glenn went to step onto the running board as they drove down the road to reach the calf, but apparently missed the step or the pickup bed and fell to the road below.

• Missouri is rated as the leading state in the production of walnut timber and nuts. Aside from eventually producing valuable wood, eight to 10 years after planting the walnut trees start to yield annual crops of nuts for which there is a steady market.

December 4, 1975

• Community Hospital Association of Fairfax recently purchased a three section stainless steel refrigerator for the kitchen, thanks to donations from the Auxiliary’s thrift shop.

• Winners of the annual Kiwanis Club Corn Yield Contest were: 1st place – Jim Ball, 140.98 bushels; 2nd – Donnie Brandt, 140.79; 3rd – Tom Kruse, 112.43; 4th – Roger Pennel, 86.64; 5th – Guy Graves, 80.84; and 6th – Kelly Graves, 61.85.

• Mr. and Mrs. Riley Wake will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary December 14 with an open house at the Fairfax Baptist Church.

• Mr. and Mrs. Mel Gibson recently purchased 164 acres of unimproved farm land east of Fairfax, formerly part of the Bertha Duvall estate. Jack Vernon farms the land. Mr. Gibson is high school principal at Fairfax R-3.

• Miss Grace Finch will be installed as worthy matron and Charles Henry Moore as worthy patron of the local Order of Eastern Star chapter December 4 in ceremonies at the Masonic temple.

• Members of the Presbyterian Church gathered at the manse in southeast Fairfax Sunday, November 30, to celebrate the completion of the building project begun more than five years ago. A paper symbolizing the indebtedness remaining on the manse was burned.

• Community For Kids Preschool food experts shared their thoughts on how to cook a turkey: Tori Pinnell, age 3 – “First you buy a turkey at R & L. Take it home and cut it up and stuff it with cinnamon toast and chicken. Pour water and three cups of apple juice on the turkey. Put it in the oven on 11 degrees for 10 minutes. Take it out and put it on a beautiful plate or a Barbie plate.” Trevor Brown, age 4 – “First you go out into the woods and kill a turkey with a turkey gun. Go home and cut it with a knife. Put the turkey in a pan and stuff it with pepper, salt, and mashed potatoes. Then throw it in the oven on cold for one minute. Take it out and pour it on any kind of plate.”

• The Fairfax Baptist Church display at the park received first place in the religious category of Light Nite and was also chosen as the grand prize winner.

• The Fairfax R-3 Elementary Christmas Program was held Monday, November 20. The kindergarten through fourth grade students performed “Elfis and the Sleighriders” A Rockin’ Holiday Fantasy.
