• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Cheaper by the Dozen” with Clifton Webb, Myrna Loy, and Jeanne Crain.

• Wednesday morning brought the coldest weather so far this winter with local temperatures reported from 9 to 14 below zero, with most thermometers registering about 10 below. A near blizzard struck Monday and there was considerable snowfall Tuesday night.

• Four new babies arrived at the Fairfax Community Hospital Friday, December 1. Four in one day is a record for the local hospital, open now for about 13 months. Two of the newcomers were boys and the other two were girls. The parents were Mr. and Mrs. James Salmond of Tarkio, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Harms of Fairfax, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bradfield of Fairfax, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mather of Tarkio.

• Waymann Holliway, 72, was injured Saturday evening at the intersection by the Bank of Atchison County on Main Street in Rock Port. Mr. Holliway had started across the street toward the bank when a truck from the north struck him and knocked him to the pavement, causing him to suffer a head injury. He died in the hospital in St. Joseph Sunday morning.

December 11, 1975

• Christmas toys for all ages at Pearce Gift and Hobby in Fairfax: Matchbox cars, 79¢; Walkie-Talkie, $12.99; and Rub-A-Dub Dolly, $10.88.

• The once proud, unique resident of the rolling hills of Atchison County will no longer be seen on the Ottmann farm south of Rock Port. Atchison County’s only wild elk died of shock as a result of being tranquilized so blood samples could be taken to determine if he was a carrier of Brucellosis in the cattle herd he roamed with.

• Earle E. and Mary Louise Sims will be withdrawing as active management of The Fairfax Forum and Sims Printing and Stationery Company commencing three weeks hence, January 1, 1976. This will end over 40 years active control of the business by the Sims family. Active management of the business operation will be handed over to Charles Norton, a faithful employee of 22 years.

• Basketball homecoming at Fairfax R-3 will be held December 12. King and queen candidates include Gregg Smith, Mark Fisher, Glen Arnold, Sara Kottman, Rhonda Johnson, and Mary Ann Scarlett.

• Dan Umbarger has accepted a position with Fairfax Manufacturing Company as an account and office manager. He began his duties December 1.

• The Fairfax High School classes will present the comedy “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” on Tuesday, December 16.

December 7, 2000

• The Fairfax R-3 Senior Spotlight is Jennifer Ray. Jennifer is the daughter of Kent and Janice Ray.

• The Fairfax Citizens, Parents, and Teachers organization hosted a hoop shoot contest in the Fairfax High School Gym November 28. Winners were Kelsey Sly, Daniel Umbarger, Leslie Smith, Chase Ilsley, Alyssa Wiley, and Logan Pyeatt. The winners will advance to the next round at NWMSU.

• The Beta Zeta chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma International held a meeting celebrating the Fairfax chapter’s 26th birthday. Two new members were inducted at the meeting, Janet Hunter and Cindy Baldwin.
