• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Kid From Texas” starring Audie Murphy and Gale Storm.

• A crowd of approximately 300 people attended a program and fish supper given at the Langdon schoolhouse Tuesday night of last week.

• The Mail had on display the skin of a 10-foot boa constrictor brought from Venezuela by A.W. Crockett, who has been with an oil company in that South American country the past six years. He is a subscriber and says it takes a month for his newspaper to arrive.

• The public sale of Joe and Allen Marlatt’s land, held at the farm north of Rock Port on No. 275 Thursday of last week, attracted a large crowd, in spite of the frigid temperatures. The farmland was bid by Orville and Donald Wolf at $240 an acre.

• Earl H. Heckel of Rock Port passed away early Wednesday morning at his home. He was born February 2, 1886, and in early manhood became associated with his father in the blacksmithing and iron-working trade.

• Trail’s End in Rock Port is advertising special Italian and Mexican food nights and dances and music provided by the Poker Chips, Jerry Hord and his Cordovox, and Country Express.

• Cox Conglomerations: “When picking up pine cones in a yard where there are dogs, wear your glasses.”

• Blue Jay Corner: It’s winter when: “Your locker suddenly becomes too small to accommodate your coat.” “Nobody wears a dress.” “You have to fight for a position at the radiator in the gym.”

• Merle H. Fox of Rock Port was presented a distinguished service award at the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives’ 38th annual meeting December 3-4 in Jefferson City. Fox is a foreman for Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative in Rock Port and the award is presented to workers completing 25 or more years of service.

• The Rock Port Elementary students participated in the annual hoop shoot contest. Winners advancing to the next contest in Maryville are Jason McGuire, Ciara Armstrong, Damond Wennihan, Megan Handley, Jessica McGuire, and Jared McMahon.

• The Chamber of Commerce’s silent auction on holiday wreaths was a huge success. Over $1,500 was raised. The money will go toward purchasing a sound system for the downtown area.

• Funeral services were recently held for Charles Edward Lutz, who was born May 15, 1918, near Fairfax. Charles was an avid outdoorsman and was well-known for his handmade fishing nets.

• The Rock Port First Lutheran Church held its live nativity, depicting the birth of Jesus. Dustin Sapp played Joseph and Amy VanMeter was Mary.

• Afton Demott was selected as the Lucky Clover 4-H Club Member of the Year. Afton has been a member for five years. This past year, her baby romper clothing exhibit, insect collection for entomology, and her pig poster “Show Bound” all qualified for State.

• Phil and Jennifer Vogler of Rock Port are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Riley, born November 2.
