December 22, 1950
• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Brothers in the Saddle” with Tim Holt, “Dancing in the Dark” with Wm. Powell and Betsy Drake, and “Sword in the Desert” with Dana Andrews and Morton Toren.
• A box-shaped article, described as a weather instrument, was found by Mrs. Harry Bunney hanging in a tree across the road from the Bunney home nine and one-half miles southeast of Fairfax Sunday morning about 10 o’clock. According to information printed on the instrument, Mrs. Bunney learned that it had been released by the U.S. Weather Bureau in Omaha that same morning. It had made good time in traveling the 100 or more miles.
• Last Friday, neighbors of Mrs. Jessie Waits and Bill Parker came to their place and picked 2,000 bushels of corn for them. Mr. Parker, a brother of Mrs. Waits, has been ill and unable to get the corn harvested. Twenty-two men with four pickers and wagons did the job.
• Monday of this week, all records for cash receipts for the sale of stamps at the Fairfax Post Office were broken. Volume of mail handled has been large for the past week.
December 25, 1975
• Marge Umbarger and Mary Louise Sims were co-chairmen of the 25th anniversary edition of the Community Hospital Auxiliary cookbook which was just released.
• The Fairfax Community Club and participating merchants provided 26 prizes to shoppers on Saturday afternoon following Santa’s visit. Mrs. Evelyn Riley was the winner of the color TV.
• In celebration of her 7th birthday, Stacy Cooper was guest of honor at a party given by her mother and sister. After the children played games, refreshments of cake decorated in the Bicentennial theme and punch were served and favors given to all guests. Attending were Michelle Cofer, Tammy Wake, Kristin Gilliam, Michelle Burke, Angela Smith, Dawn Bradfield, Jennifer Sutter, and Sandi Cottle.

• The Atchison County Highway Department held its annual Christmas party December 9 at the Tarkio Legion Building. Gary Easley was recognized for his 23.7 years of dedicated service to the county. He is retiring in January. Gary and his wife, Emma, were honored with a proclamation from the Atchison County Commissioners and Gary’s coworkers presented him with a gold watch.
• “Dear Santa, I like you so much. How is Mrs. Claus doing and Rudolph? How are the elves doing too? Can you ask Rudolph if he is married because I would like to know? Can you pretty please bring me a Swing and Sing Angelica from the Rugrats in Paris? You will have to come through the door. I will leave you some cookies and a glass of milk. Love, Lauren Clark”
• The Xi Lambda Beta Sorority has announced the Fairfax December light winners. They are: DeWayne and Betty Johnson, Betty Jayne Sly, Bill and Nancy VanGundy, and Charles and Lila Norton. The overall grand prize winners were Marion and Tonya Oswald.
• The Fairfax Baptist Girls in Action donated teddy bears to the pediatric ward at Community Hospital. The girls saved their own money to buy the bears then attached notes of reassurance to each one.
• Severe winter weather caused several car accidents and cancelled school last week.
