• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Storm Over Wyoming” with Tim Holt and his saddle pal Chito and “Fancy Pants” with Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.
• So many youngsters met Santa Claus when he came to Rock Port Saturday afternoon that the supply of more than 500 bags of treats which had been prepared for them was exhausted and it was necessary to provide other treats.
• The E.H. Dierks Lumber & Coal Co. holdings in Rock Port were sold at auction Wednesday to the Richardson Lumber Co. of Clarinda, Iowa. The real estate sold at $8,500, plus whatever the stock invoices.
• Would you believe that a town no larger than Rock Port would send out 78 large bags of holiday parcel post mail in one day and 87 on another? That’s the record for last Saturday and Monday as reported by Postmaster Henry Stapel and his crew. In addition, the office reports 11,125 machine cancellations of letters and cards on Monday – the greatest single day’s dispatch in the history of the office.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “The Land Time Forgot.”
• Dan LaHue took his son Troy duck hunting for the first time. He gave him a single shot 410 to use. Not only did Troy get a duck, but he shot three that were all lined up on the water.
• An out-of-season tornado struck Atchison County Saturday completely destroying six buildings and severely damaging six others in the area of I-29 and State Hwy. 111.
• Albert Smyser of Avoca, Iowa, purchased the building of Harold and Mary Hulett, formerly the Northwest Missouri Fur and Supply, at public auction December 13. Smyser paid $13,000 for the building. It has not been decided what the building will be used for.
December 14, 2000
• The Rock Port Truck Plaza, located at 1306 Hwy. 136 W. in Rock Port, is one of the featured businesses this week. Owned by Charlie Mertens, the truck plaza has been in business since 1979. It employs 28 people and is open 24 hours a day.
• Seth and Cindie Gaines are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Kelcie Loren Gaines. Kelcie was born at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, November 28.
• Chats: “Old Man Winter has showed his ugly head. An official measurement isn’t available but the best guess puts snowfall around 3 to 4 inches with drifting. This was added with the single digit temps and wind chill below zero.”
• After allegedly attempting to steal a purse from a business woman in Rock Port, two men from Iowa found themselves with no place to run or hide. Thanks to a quick response from several Rock Port citizens, the Rock Port Police Department, and the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, the two men were apprehended at the corner of Cass and Market streets at 11:45 Tuesday morning.
• The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) held its November board meeting at the administration building of the new Golden Triangle plant in Craig. Kerry Nixon, the general manager, provided an overview and tour for the ACDC board members and guests.
