• The Rock Port Mutual Telephone Company completed another successful year of operation at its January 15 meeting. The records for the year show $5,250 paid on old debts, which cuts the existing obligations to $3,750. Two new directors, Charles Million, Jr., and John Rosenbohm, were elected to replace James Stevens and Delbert Stites.
• The newly-constituted Watson Lions Club will have its charter night Friday. Officers of the Watson club are: I.B. Gaines, president; J.D. Hays, first vice-president; V.L. Herren, second vice-president; C. Ray Bownes, third vice-president; Chas. S. Garst, secretary; William Frede, treasurer; Wm. J. Maness, lion tamer; and Robert Harmon, tail twister.
• Monday evening, January 29, has been designated as the night for the Mothers’ March on polio in Rock Port. The mothers’ organization will swing into action on a one-hour fund-raising drive to combat polio.
• Orville Muntz, operator of the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port, suffered head and hand burns late Friday evening when a film caught fire in the projection room.
January 29, 1976
• A cracked chimney on two floors of the Atchison County Courthouse in Rock Port caused considerable concern January 22 as the judges of the county court ordered evacuation of the building fearing structural damage and possible fire in the 94-year-old structure.
• The grand opening for the Atchison County Cooperative’s new service station and sandblasting and paint shop will be held February 12 and 13. The new service station facilities, located on Highway 136 west of Rock Port, opened December 6 for business.
• Herb Spurlock presented a 50 year membership pin for the North Star 157 of the Masonic Lodge to Virgil Walter January 12 at the lodge in Rock Port.
• Mr. and Mrs. Steve Scamman, Rock Port, are the parents of a son, Steven Cory, born January 22 at the Fairfax hospital.

• Eloise Puckett True was a recipient of the honored 50 year membership certificate of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mrs. True was a charter member of William White Chapter.
• Northwest Missouri Press met in St. Joseph, Missouri, this past week for its 111th annual meeting. W.C. Farmer, president, presided over the gathering.
• The third and fifth grade students enjoyed a Starlab presentation January 13 in the Rock Port gymnasium. The program provided students with a basic introduction to stargazing.
• Harvey Bennett, a 32-year employee of the Missouri Department of Transportation, will retire from the department February 1.
• Rock Port Market advertised the following specials: pork spare ribs, $1.79 per pound; boneless rib steaks, $5.39 per pound; bratwurst, 2 for $5; and cauliflower, $1.59 per head.
