An in-person training event is planned for area farmers whose private pesticide applicator license expires in 2026 or has expired. Those farmers who need a license can also attend training. The training allows farmers to purchase and apply restricted use pesticides.
To attend, you can google University of Missouri Extension Private Pesticide Applicator Training and find a list of events. From there you can select the event and register on the web.
If you do not register on the web, call the Buchanan County Extension office to register at 816-279-1691. There is a statewide fee. Also, if you are recertifying, bring your old license as you will need it to complete your application for your new license.
One important change in licensing is that anyone using Restricted Use Pesticides (RUP) must hold a license. You are no longer allowed to work under someone else’s license.
If you are applying for restricted use pesticides for grain bin fumigation, you will need a non-soil fumigation Category 22. Also, if you are applying restricted use pesticides through aerial application, you will need Category 23. Additional training for these categories will be conducted at county meetings.
Ag updates will be held at these meetings. Short updates in the form of presentations will be given by MU Extension subject matter experts in agronomy, livestock, ag business, ag and natural resources and horticulture and can ask questions. This upcoming season will be a challenge with high crop input prices and low grain prices this year.
