• From a springlike 72 degrees on Sunday, the mercury dropped to a minimum of one below zero on Wednesday, Valentine’s Day, and precipitation for the period amounted to .5.

• New equipment was installed this week at the Tarkio Candy Kitchen including a new ice cream machine. Owners Mr. and Mrs. G.W. McMasters have also purchased a new frosty malt machine and a complete new soda fountain.

• Rolling rough-shod over an inexperienced Fairfax team, the Westboro Wildcats came from far back to score an unprecedented 33 points in the final eight minutes of play and win the trophy presented to the team with the greatest number of points in the county-wide basketball round robin tournament Saturday night at Brown Gym. Final team scores were: Westboro 67, Tarkio 55, Watson 34, Rock Port 29, and Fairfax 28.

• Specials at Martin Auto Store in Tarkio include: baby car seats, $2.39 and up; chrome flashlight with batteries, 98¢; 75 watt bulbs, 13¢; and 1 gallon thermos jug with faucet, $2.29.

• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “King Solomon’s Mines” with Cary Grant and “Fancy Pants” with Bob Hope and Lucille Ball.

February 19, 1976

• The local speech contest was held February 10 at Tarkio Elementary School. Winners were: 4th grade – Todd Graves and Angela Lockhart; 5th grade – Nancy Million and Linda Pattee; and 6th grade – Jody Jensen and Sammy Graves. Judges were Mrs. Alta Freeman, Mrs. Katie Townsend, and Mrs. Mary Smith.

• Affordable used cars and trucks at H.H. Wright Motors in Tarkio: 1972 10-passenger Ford Country Sedan – $1,975; 1971 Ford Galaxie 500 4-door – $1,495; and 1974 Chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup – $3,250.

• Tarkio High School’s Homecoming King is Gene Austin and Queen is Marty Allen. After the ceremony a dance was held in the elementary activity room.

February 15, 2001

• The Tarkio High School Basketball Homecoming King is Aaron Madron and Queen is Beth Pearson.

• A total of 10 inches of snow and ice blanketed Tarkio and the surrounding area on Friday, February 9. Schools were closed, events cancelled, and citizens had to deal with power outages.

• At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, the Tarkio Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire at 911 N. 7th Street in Tarkio. The home, in which Jim Bob and Caralee Barker resided in, is basically a total loss, but no injuries were reported.

• Tarkio Elementary second grader Claire Rogers brought her piggy bank to school to donate the change inside to the Tarkio Resource Center fund drive. Her donation totaled $101.30.

• Betsy Chapin, winner of the dinner for eight at the Wayward Inn, brought Marylyn Wilcox, Anne Amthor, Judy Munn, Pat Prather, Lydia Hurst, Janice Beneda, and Thelma Woolsey to dine on marinated shrimp, spinach salad, sherried artichoke chicken, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, wild rice and mushrooms, pot de creme and chocolate, and coffee with Elsie Fae Rhoades as hostess and Jane Close as cook.
