Students recently participated in Heart Healthy Jump Rope Challenge at Tarkio Elementary. The kids traveled to different stations with jump ropes and hula hoops and then were taught how to check their heart rates with the help of school nurse Meghan Hughes (pictured above left). Adamae Hurst is pictured above middle hula hooping and Stason Sundermann is pictured above right working on his jump rope skills. American Heart Month is in February and every year, the Tarkio R-I Wellness Committee hosts a Heart Healthy Jump Rope Challenge for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Students make their way through jump rope, hula hoop, and cardio exercise stations before reaching the heart rate station where they learn to check their heart rates and get to listen to their hearts. After the event, students enjoy a healthy snack before they go home. (Shannon Bruns photos)
