Greenley’s Grocery

While doing some “spring cleaning” at the Atchison County Mail recently, several old photos were discovered. This gem was taken at Greenley’s Grocery Store in Rock Port (year unknown). The names on the back were listed as: Ned Greenley, Jim Stepp, Grace Howell, Nannie Greenley, Bill Andermann, Bill Greenley, Lou Harrington, and Jane Rupe and daughter. If you have any old photos taken at Atchison County establishments back in the day, feel free to bring them in so we can scan them and share.

Spring Water Resort

We were told that this old photo was taken circa the 1920s at Spring Water Resort south of Rock Port, Missouri, up over the bluff from where Rundels lived. Revivals as well as 4-H camps were held there. At the Rundels’ farmstead was a two-story rock house that was once a stagecoach stop for the stagecoach route that ran along the top of the bluffs. In this capture, it appears some people are being baptized.
