• Bogle’s advertised beautiful Easter baskets filled with fresh Easter candy wrapped in sparkling cellophane, from 19¢ and up; Easter eggs, 39¢ per pound; and Easter greeting cards, 2 for 5¢.

• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Hustle” with Burt Reynolds and Catherine Deneuve and “3 Days Of The Condor.”
• About 300 people attended the Rock Port Future Farmers of America Rocky Mountain Oyster supper March 18 in the vocational ag room.
• The French club at Rock Port High School sponsored the third annual Mardi Gras March 12. Mark Lytle and Elaine McMahon reigned as king and queen.
• The Bank of Atchison County auctioned off the remaining residential tracts of land in the Country Club Addition March 23 with 14 different people paying $40,475. The property now known as Country Club Drive was originally purchased from Loraine Heckel in 1962 by the Rock Port Development Corporation. It had been in the Heckel family for over 100 years.
• Grand opening of the “Countryside Florist” will be April 1 with the proprietors, Danny and Lyndia Cooper, giving away a sweetheart rose to the first 200 people. The new flower shop is located at 205 S. Main in Rock Port.
• The Trail’s End complex is the new site of the prominent and historical Langdon depot which was moved Friday and arrived Monday from its original location on the Burlington Railroad at Langdon. The building was sold to Trail’s End for $100.
• Donald Noellsch of Rock Port purchased the Augusta M. Ramsay home March 20 for $23,000 in an estate auction. The location of the six room home is 310 William Street.

• The 1981 Rock Port High School girls’ basketball team members were honored at the 2001 Show-Me Showdown in Columbia March 17. The girls’ team placed third in the 1981 state tournament and won the sportsmanship award.
• The annual meeting of the Atchison County Soil & Water Conservation District was held at Fairfax. Poster contest winners from the three county schools were recognized: 1st – Nick Sturtz; 2nd – Luke Moore; and 3rd – Danielle Carlson.
• William D. Bailey, Sr., also known as Paddle-foot, of Rock Port, will be celebrating his 80th birthday March 25. He was born on that day in 1921 in Phelps City, Missouri. Paddlefoot married Mary M. Tallant in 1940.
