Tabitha Wintz, Mayor of Fairfax, gave a community update and detailed plans for Fairfax.

 

John Brown, volunteer fireman for 36 years, updated everyone on how their money was being used to improve the Fairfax Fire Department.

 

Danny Kemerling gave an update on the Fairfax Improvement Foundation and all of the projects that have been completed over the last 10 years.

 

Jill Kingery talked about the baseball field and the monies raised by the Optimist and Kiwanis clubs. The improvements now enable them to host high school games.

 

Monica Bailey, director for Atchison County Development Corporation, wrapped up the meeting highlighting the upcoming youth events and talked about the available grants for area businesses.

 

The Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) hosted its annual community lunch in Fairfax at the Fire Station Community Room on March 18. A total of 51 attendees enjoyed a wonderful lunch by Daybreak Café.

ACDC Director Monica Bailey welcomed all to the meeting and Roger Martin, ACDC board member, offered a prayer of thanks and blessing for the meal.

First on the list of speakers was John Brown, who talked about the Fairfax Fire Department and their future plans to purchase additional equipment and trucks. In the last few years, the cost of fire trucks has increased from $250,000 to over $400,000 and it takes about three years to receive the truck. He touched on their annual appeal letters and how the money was being spent. He wanted to assure everyone that their money was being put to good use, but in some cases it might take a few years to save enough money to make a purchase.

Jill Kingery talked about the baseball field. Thanks to funds raised by the Optimist and Kiwanis clubs, they can now host high school games and will be hosting four this year. Next on their list of improvements is the fencing behind home plate. With the grants and community support, they are hoping to make this happen.

Fairfax Mayor Tabitha Wintz updated the crowd on the projects around Fairfax. She also talked about the replacements for John Brown and Steve Stephens, two city workers who recently retired. Both John and Steve have agreed to stay on and help train Kamron Woodring and Ky White, who will be filling their positions.

Danny Kemerling shared information about Fairfax Improvement Foundation. Danny brought a sign to show all 31 of the projects that have been completed since 2016. Danny talked about the great community support they have received throughout the years to make all of this possible.

Monica Bailey wrapped up the meeting with a quick update on job shadowing and the business improvement grants.
