Three polling locations in Atchison County will not have anything on the ballot in the Municipal Election on Tuesday, April 7. The Tarkio, Westboro, and Fairfax polling locations will not be open on April 7.
When a political subdivision has an equal number of candidates file for open positions, the subdivision is not required to place the position on the ballot.
The only polling location that will be open on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, will be Rock Port. Michael Graves filed for North Ward Alderman and Jeff Geib has filed as a write-in for South Ward Alderman. According to Susette Taylor, Atchison County Clerk and Election Authority, the small room at the Velma Houts Building will be used to conduct the election. Enter it from the front of the building (the door will be clearly marked).
The Phelps City Road District had one person file for an open board position, and their tax levy is up for renewal. It is required by law to be renewed every four years, so this is a renewal. If you live within the boundaries of the Phelps City Road District, this will be the only two things on your ballot to vote on.
If you normally vote at the Velma Houts Building and you do not live within the city limits of Rock Port or the Phelps City Road District you do not have any issues to vote on at the April election.
The sample ballot is printed on page 10 of this week’s Atchison County Mail and can also be viewed on www.acmoelections.org.
If you have any questions, you can call the Atchison County Clerk at 660-744-6214, Ext. 3.
