• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Massacre River” with Guy Madison and Cathy Downs and “Ma And Pa Kettle Back On The Farm.”

• “Dear Ruth” will be performed by the Rock Port High School Senior Class Friday, March 30, at the Memorial Building.

• Rock Port Municipal Utilities closed another successful year of operation on March 20. Electrical energy produced for the year totaled 2,519,369 kilowatts. There were 43 televisions installed over the course of the year.

• Ralph Townsend of the Linden neighborhood is minus one of his big toes as the result of a slash with an ax Monday while chopping wood at his home.

• The Over The Back Yard Fence Friend of the Week is Mrs. Linnie (Lahue) Hunter, who has spent her life in Atchison County, living in just two homes. Mrs. Hunter has been active in many organizations and projects over the years, including the Langdon Ladies’ Aid, Women’s Association of the Hunter Cemetery, the Red Cross, Eastern Star, and Rock Port Garden Club.

April 2, 1976

• This week’s COE student is Craig Corken. Craig is employed at The Bank of Atchison County and is supervised by Mrs. Donna Shineflew, vice-president and cashier. Craig is a senior at Rock Port High School and plans on going into business at the University of Missouri – Columbia.

• Melvin Supply Company, which sells fertilizer and chemicals to local farmers, is expanding the plant and building new facilities at the former Atchison County Cooperative Oil Station and Million Implement Company on Hwy. 136 in Rock Port.

• Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ottmann of Langdon celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary March 31. They were married at the Ekke Rosenbohm home south of Langdon by Pastor Ieaman.

• Jeff Houts, Dave Stanford, and Scott Jones are the Rock Port High School juniors selected to attend Missouri Boys’ State this summer in Warrensburg. The local sponsors are the Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and the two banks.

March 29, 2001

• The Rock Port Board of Aldermen held a special meeting last Thursday, March 22, to discuss what should be done on Mill Street. Erosion is causing the hillside to break off in chunks. It is obvious that something needs to be done but the question is, who will pay for it?

• The Rock Port Elementary Book Fair was a success, raising over $1,000 for the school. Several books were also purchased and donated to the library.

• Erica Corken has been chosen as this month’s Optimist Teenager of the Month. Erica is the daughter of Craig Corken and Pam and Buddy Husing. She’s been on the high honor roll all four years and ranks in the top 10 of her class.

• Rock Port High School Senior Spotlight: Amy VanMeter is the daughter of Gordon and Sarah Van Meter. Amy enjoys listening to music, eating Chinese food, and watching Dazed and Confused, Can’t Hardly Wait, and Friends. Her favorite class is physics with Mr. Moore.
