•Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “Big Timber” with Roddy McDowall, “Bodyhold,” “G.I. Joe” with Robert Mitchum, “I’ll Get By,” “The Fireball” with Mickey Rooney and Pat O’Brien.
• The Rev. F.W. Nolte was honored on Sunday, April 1, by the congregation of the St. John’s Lutheran Church for his 35 years of service as pastor of the church. In those 35 years, he’s seen a new church replace the old one. The beautiful $45,000 medieval English Gothic structure of mingled shades was dedicated on December 13, 1942.
• Roy J. Luckhardt, an interior designer newly located in Tarkio, will hold a spring showing in the bamboo room of the Walnut Inn in Tarkio. Mr. Luckhardt will be showing home furnishings, accessories, and fabrics. Mr. Luckhardt attended school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and received extra training in Chicago, Illinois, and Durham, England.

• A new feature by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his wife, Ruth Stafford Peale, offering guidance with everyday problems, will be published in the Tarkio Avalanche. Dr. Peale and Mrs. Peale will discuss “There’s An Answer!” – offering practical advice on a variety of subjects ranging from over-exposure to television to sexual promiscuity and rebellious teenagers.
• Mr. and Mrs. Gary Wiley of Tarkio are the proud parents of a daughter, Sarawn Renea, born March 30 at Fairfax Community Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds and 5 ounces.
• Bob McCoy, owner and operator of the Walnut Inn in Tarkio, announced that he will open the Townroom of the Inn on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays after regular Mule Barn Summer Theatre productions. Kathy Milligan, one of the Mule Barn Summer Company members, will perform on Friday and Saturday nights. Kathy, from Oklahoma City, will sing and play guitar.
• Tarkio election results include: Mayor – Roy “Pete” McIntosh; Tarkio R-I School levy – yes; Tarkio R-I School Board – Bill Harrington and Jack Schmidt; North Ward Alderman – William Stewart; South Ward Alderman – Delbert Greever; Collector – Ora Schick; Marshall – J.C. Henson, Jr.; and Police Judge – Charles “Chub” McAdams.
• Starring in the role of Puck in the Tarkio College Theatre Arts Department’s production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be Murry Moss, the Mule Barn Theatre’s artist-in-residence. Murry has experience with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, the Dartmouth Repertory, the Eugene O’Neill Playwright’s Conference, Andrew Gregory and the Manhattan Project, and Joseph Chaikan with the Open Theatre in New York City. He also studied acrobatics and tap with Charles Kelly in New York.

• Lindsay Auto Supply in Tarkio has switched from CarQuest items back to NAPA. Jason Goldberg is the store owner/operator.
• Lorie Goldberg of Lorie’s Pet Connection in Tarkio has relocated her business from J&J Products on the airport road to 401 1/2 S. 4th Street in Tarkio. Lorie grooms dogs and cats and business has picked up since she moved the location to town.
• In celebration of National Volunteer Week, the OATS Atchison County Support Committee has selected Phyllis Jackson of Tarkio as its Volunteer of the Year.
• The Flower Mill has moved to 606 Main in Tarkio. Christmas and Boyds Bear items will be on display along with candles, cards, stuffed animals, and other gift items. They will also have a new flower cooler and more parking available to customers.
