• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Mr. Music” with Bing Crosby, “Riders of Tomahawk Creek,” “Bodyhold,” and “High Lonesome” with John Barrymore.
• Mrs. Eber Collins of east of Tarkio suffered a heavy loss of springers Thursday night of last week when a fire in a brooder killed 492 chickens.
• Mrs. Jim Wright of Red Star district reported that she and her husband saw a group of three deer early Tuesday morning near their home. There were two does and a buck which carried several points and looked almost like an elk.
• Frank McNaughton, formerly of Westboro and now a correspondent for Time Magazine, was recently on television, giving the background of the Kefauver hearings. He started out in crime reporting, covering public enemies such as Pretty Boy Floyd, Machine Gun Kelly and Kathryn Kelly, and Al Capone’s mobsters. He then became interested in political reporting and went to Washington in 1936, where he spent five years reporting on congressional activities. He has been with Time for 24 years.

• Around 450 employees at MBPXL Corporation went on strike after working without a contract for almost three weeks. MBPXL is one of the nation’s largest beef processors and a strike was called Friday when an extension of their contract expired. Picketers started marching immediately at the entrance of the plant.
• Peggy Kennell and Jeff Houts were named Rock Port High School Good School Citizens of the quarter.
• Marlene Walter was elected as Rock Port High School Student Body President for the 1976-77 school year.
• Alfred Klump, office manager for Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative, is retiring March 31 after 30 years of service. He was presented a set of golf clubs in honor of his retirement. Replacing Klump is Richard McIntyre.
• The Rock Port Telephone Company plans to install equipment for 300 touchtone telephones in the Rock Port area. An additional charge of $1.50 per phone will be added to the regular monthly bill of those who want the touchtone phones.
• A large flotation fertilizer truck known as “Big Wheels” belonging to the Atchison County Co-op was destroyed by fire at the Robert Gebhards farm west of Nishnabotna April 5. Around four or five tons of fertilizer were also lost. Operator Leroy Lingerfelt had singed hair on his head and arms, but wasn’t burned.

• Dennis and Nancy Bartles of Rock Port own miniature ponies. A colt was born to mare Suzie on March 30 and weighed approximately 12-13 pounds.
• Rock Port Outreach continues to aid earthquake victims in El Salvador. With money donated by the Atchison County community, Aid Association for Lutherans, Grace Community Church, and the First Christian Church, over 250 families have received food and medicine. Alma Clodfelter’s father and her cousin are delivering food and medicine to the rural areas hard hit by the earthquake. Her cousin is also a doctor and takes the opportunity to give medical exams.
• The organ donation van was at the Rock Port School on Monday, March 26, to share information with students on the importance of donating organs. They had a walk-through of the van, in which students could press buttons and find out info about specific organs.
