• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Tripoli” with Maureen O’Hara and John Payne and “Let’s Dance” with Betty Hutton and Fred Astaire.
• Mrs. Wanda Minter of Rock Port has been appointed as assistant secretary of the Atchison County Selective Service board and began her work Monday. Mrs. Clara Belle Mulligan is the secretary.
• Two occupants of the nursery at Fairfax Community Hospital have names given to them that give a financial slant. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Wake had twins on April 8 and one has “Penny” for part of her name. A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Murphy will use “Nichol” as part of her signature, although her full name is Nicholan. The combination Nicholan Penny sounds like six cents, which is not much money, but two mighty fine girls.
• Blocks are being laid for the new Craven Implement company building at the north edge of Fairfax on Highway 275.
• N.D. Vogelgesang of Kansas City is to be the new superintendent of the Fairfax public schools. He served as superintendent at Platte City, Missouri, public schools for nine years and served as principal for one year and superintendent for four years in the Gallatin School system.
• In the hope of finding an additional supply of water, city officials expect to start drilling another well this week. Rex Lane of Blanchard, experienced well man, will do some prospecting north of the Fairfax Grain Company’s elevator, where many believe a plentiful supply will be found.
April 22, 1976
• The second grade class of Mrs. Donna Portis planted two Bicentennial trees April 15 in the yard of Rev. and Mrs. Reid Swindler. The trees were provided by the Missouri Dept. of Conservation.
• Members of the Fairfax Girl Scout Troop 293 planted 19 trees, including 14 Heritage Trees, in the city park April 22. The girls also each planted a tree at their home. Members of the Fairfax Brownie Scouts planted honeysuckle bushes at their homes.
• Two members from each of the Fairfax and Rock Port High School Student Councils participated in an exchange program where they attended classes at the others’ school. Participating from Fairfax were Mark Fisher and Linda Whitford and from Rock Port were Marlene Walter and Jeannette Mulvania.
• L and L Interiors will open Friday. Keith Lee and Mrs. Paula Ladehoff, both of Shenandoah, Iowa, will operate the business. Their spouses will serve as silent partners in the store’s operations. Mr. Lee has installed and sold carpeting and linoleum for the past 16 years and Mrs. Ladehoff is an interior decorator.

• The Fairfax all-school play “Our Town” will be presented April 27 and 29 in the high school gym.
• Newly elected Fairfax R-3 School Board members Marion Oswald and Phil Yocum were sworn in during the special meeting April 10. Ralph Ball was honored for nine years of service to the board.
• The Fairfax High School entomology ag team qualified for State with their fourth place finish at Districts. Team members include Curtis Grossman, Miles Smith, Brice Ball, and Dustin Graves.
• March students of the month are: Beth Graves, McKale Burke, Nic Smith, Briana Umbarger, Bryan Adams, and Chance Clement, and Teacher of the Month was Elaine Strickland.
• A crowd of 430 guests were entertained by 48 “celebrities” and served by 53 area students at Community Hospital Association’s 4th annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner. A total of $22,500 was raised.
