• The new Modern Cream Station of the Meek Produce Company will open soon in its new location at 105 South Third Street in Tarkio. Patrons will be served with refreshments opening day, as well as balloons for the kiddies. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Meek recently purchased the building from Mrs. D.A. Shaw and will continue to run the feed, egg, and produce business in the adjacent building.

• Not so unusual a number of years ago, but an uncommon sight nowadays, was the train of 31 cars of feeder cattle rolling into the C.B.&Q. railroad station here last Thursday afternoon. The cattle were shipped by a commission company from Carlsbad, New Mexico. Sixteen were claimed at Tarkio and 15 at Westboro by various cattle feeders of this vicinity.

• Rains the past week amounted to a total of 3.6 inches. Temperatures ranged from a minimum of 30 last Thursday to a maximum of 69 on Monday.

• Showing at The Tarkio Theatre: “Vengeance Valley” with Burt Lancaster and “Right Cross” with June Allyson, Dick Powell, and Ricardo Montalban.

• Miss Mary Reeves, former Tarkio resident who graduated from Tarkio College in 1927 and earned a Master’s Degree in public health at Harvard three years ago, was lecturer at the Harvard School of Public Health April 13 and 14.

April 29, 1976

• The fourth annual Cub-M-Bile races will be held from 9th to 6th streets on Main Street Sunday afternoon, May 2. The cars will be driven by Cub Scouts, will run two at a time, and all drivers will race twice.

• A cool, wet week was the story of Tarkio’s weather for the past seven days. High temperature occurred on the 23rd with 82 degrees and the low was on the 26th with a reading of 33 degrees. A total of 2.68 inches of precipitation was measured for the week with the total amount for the month of April being 5.93 inches.

• Approximately 50 students, faculty members, and local residents visited the headquarters of Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB. The visit was arranged by Dr. Robert B. Davis, Professor of Literature and a retired lieutenant colonel in the Air Force Reserve. Telephone and radio communication was established for the group to Eilson Air Force Base in Alaska and to the airborne command post which was flying over western Nebraska at approximately 26,000 feet with Brigadier General Peck in command.

• The Tarkio High School golf team began their season with a trip to Sidney to play Farragut. Tarkio won by a commanding 19 strokes, 174 to 193. The low scores were posted by Rod Kenagy with 39, Mark Hopkins with 44, Curtis Evans with 44, and David Meek with 47.

April 26, 2001

• The Tarkio and Westboro Lions Clubs held a bike-a-thon Saturday, April 21, just north of Westboro, Missouri. Twenty-seven riders participated, raising over $1,100. Winners of the bikes were Haley Johnson and Dalton Riley. Kaylan Sundermann rode the most miles.

• Bob Fischer, employee of the Northwest Missouri Learning Center in Tarkio, received the very prestigious award for the Albany Region of Direct Support Person of the Year.

• The Tarkio Rotary Club made a $1,000 donation to theTarkio Resource Center.
