April 26, 1951

• City officials belive that someone is deliberately draining mains into the sewers. For weeks, water pressure has been getting away mysteriously. It is estimated that some 3,000 to 4,000 gallons of water is lost each night the act is committed.

• The Fairfax Community Garden Club is planning to landscape the grounds of Community Hospital. A bake sale and plant sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, in the Schooler building with proceeds going toward the project.

• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “The Happy Years” with Dean Stockwell and Daryl Hickman, and “Wabash Avenue” with Betty Grable, Victor Mature, and Phil Harris.

• Jack Combs and Raymond Seymour saw a rather unusual sight about seven o’clock Monday evening. While they were driving near the Tarkio River, two large beavers appeared on the surface of the water and were swiftly swimming upstream. Mr. Combs says they were the largest beavers he has ever seen.

April 29, 1976

• Award winners at the Fairfax FFA Banquet were: Kent Ray, Star Chapter Farmer; H.A. Hawkins, Star Greenhand; Robbie Bowness, Livestock Production Award; Jim Ball, State Farmer; David Sly, Agriculture Mechanics Award; Mark McCartney, Agriculture Electrification Award; Tom Kruse, Soil and Water Management Award; and Donnie Brandt, Crop Production Award.

• Fairfax Comfort Air, owned by Robert and Barbara Jones, will hold an open house at the business’ new location one-fourth mile east of Fairfax on Highway 59. The public is invited to come see Comfort Air’s line of Hotpoint appliances and Carrier heating and cooling equipment.

• Recent auditions to fill openings in the ranks of the 1976-77 Fairfax majorettes and the color guard resulted in Gail Strough, Lori Miles, and Margaret Cleveland being chosen as majorettes. Krista Kruse, Judy Gigliotti, Diane Moore, and Cindy Bolton were chosen for color guard.

• Jessie May (Frohn) Mavity will celebrate her 96th birthday Monday, April 30.

• The Exchange Bank of Fairfax is hosting an open house honoring Harry Emrick for his 60 years of dedicated service Thursday, May 3.

• The Fairfax fifth grade students released balloons Thursday, April 19, in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. A note was placed inside the balloons stating that the Fairfax School does not like child abuse and the addresses of students for those who find the balloons to write back.

• The Fairfax Presbyterian Women held their annual Sewing Day and Luncheon Thursday, April 12. The women had done a lot of sewing ahead of time of baby jackets, baby quilts, and receiving blankets. They also rolled a lot of bandages for hospitals overseas.

• Fairfax Boy Scout Troop 73 held its Court of Honor Thursday, April 19, at the Fairfax Community Room. Michael Oswald and Bryan Adams were promoted to Life Rank.

• The Atchison County All-Stars Swim Team has changed its name to the Northwest Sharks. The team will begin practicing for this summer season in May.

• The Fairfax High School chapter of National Honor Society recently held a Pennies for Patients campaign to raise money to help fight leukemia. The chapter challenged the Fairfax Elementary classes to see who could raise the most money. The sixth grade class won and was treated to a pizza party.
