Maurice Gene Martin, the son of Austin Wayne and Lorena Faye (Freeman) Martin, was born July 29, 1958, in Fairfax, Missouri. Maurice attended West Nodaway School in Burlington Junction, Missouri, and graduated in 1976. He then attended Northwest Missouri State University, in Maryville, Missouri, for one year.
On June 23, 1984, Maurice was united in marriage to Pamela Gay Stoner at the Fairfax Baptist Church. They became the parents of one son, Austin Jordan (A.J.) and made their home in the Atchison County area. In March 2026, because of Maurice’s illness, they moved to Rock Port. Maurice didn’t want Gay to live in the country by herself. For many years, Maurice was a self-employed truck driver. He also was employed by Clark Cofer, Jack Vernon, and Ronnie Martin. Most recently, he was employed by Lyle Brown and Doug Garrison in their farming operations. Maurice loved to garden and work outdoors, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Maurice was a member of the Tarkio Baptist Church, Tarkio, Missouri. In recent years, Maurice had rededicated his life to God. He found great comfort and purpose in his relationship with Jesus and witnessed to everyone who visited. Maurice passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, at the age of 67.
Besides his parents, Maurice was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Alva Stoner. Survivors include his wife, Gay Martin, Rock Port; son, A.J.
