• Rock Port has a couple celebrating 65 years of married life. Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Strader observed their anniversary Friday, April 20. Mr. Strader was a barber for many years in Rock Port up to just a few years ago.
• Winners in the teenage popularity contest recently held by Cohen’s Hiway Super Market and their awards were: Doris Linville – bicycle; Shirley Walker – camera; and Pat Stoner – electric corn popper.
• The Atchison County rural track meet will be held at the Tarkio College field. Only boys and girls from the rural districts and the Centennial, Daleview, Irish Grove, and Nishnabotna consolidated districts will participate.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Renegades of Sonora” with Rocky Lane and his horse Black Jack, “My Darling Clementine” with Roy Acuff, and on the stage, The Allen Sisters and other entertainers providing comedy, fiddling, harmonica playing, guitar playing, singing, etc.

• Cox’s Conglomerations – “Found six mushrooms right by our birdbath. Whoopee!”
• Thirty-nine relatives and friends helped Mrs. Nora Dixon celebrate her 86th birthday at a dinner Sunday at the Masonic Hall. Mrs. Dixon received a birthday card from United States President Gerald Ford the first of the week.
• This week’s COE student is Cathy McMahon. Cathy is employed at Clark Ford-Mercury and is in office management trainee-automotive.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: Walt Disney’s “Blackbeard’s Ghost.”
• The Rock Port R-II junior-senior banquet and prom will be held May 1. The banquet will be at the Coach House and the prom will be at the multi-purpose room at the school. The theme for the evening is “Pieces of April.”

• Melanie Moore has been named the Rock Port Optimist Teenager of the Month. Melanie is the daughter of Jerry and Amy Moore.
• Cantor Leo Fettman will present a workshop about the Holocaust Wednesday, May 2, at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port. Mr. Fettman was born in Hungary in 1925 and his family was removed from their Hungarian home by the Nazis in 1944. He was later transported to Auschwitz, where he worked in the crematorium. He survived Auschwitz, the medical experiments of Dr. Josef Mengele, a bungled attempt by the SS to hang him, and a series of forced labor camps. He wrote the book “SHOAH: Journey From The Ashes.”
• Rock Port Mayor Dale Dickkut recently spoke to the Rock Port third graders about the letters they wrote to him concerning his role as mayor.
• Members of Girl Scout Troop #225, led by Michele Pfeil, performed their community service project by planting flowers outside of the Rock Port Diner.
• The Rock Port High School chapter of National Honor Society held an Eyes for the Needy project. A total of 306 pairs of glasses, 40 lenses, 51 other miscellaneous items, and three hearing aids were donated.
• Rebecca Weller bowled a perfect 300 game at Rock Port Blue Jay Bowl.
