• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “711 Ocean Drive” with Joan Dru and Edmund O’Brien and “American Guerrilla in the Philippines” with Tyrone Power and Micheline Prelle.
• Tarkio High School cindermen won Class “C” in the District Track Meet held in Maryville Saturday. Approximately 25-35 boys competed. Duane Freeman won the 100 yard dash, the 220 yard dash, and the broad jump.
• An accident at the intersection of Maple and 13th streets in Tarkio resulted in considerable property damage to a 1949 International school bus and a 1950 Pontiac Coupe, but no injuries. The bus was driven by Lester B. Morton and carried a number of students. The coupe was driven by Mrs. Helen Bredensteiner.
• A mystery-comedy “The Man on the Stairs” by E. Clayton McCarty will be presented by the senior class of Tarkio College Saturday, May 19.
May 6, 1976
• Gregory S. Hurst, Tarkio College Mule Barn Theatre Artistic Director, showed off a theatre season coupon booklet which pushed subscription sales beyond the $10,000 mark for the upcoming summer season.
• Cub-Mo-Bile race winners in Tarkio were: 1st, Jack Schneider, 47.2 seconds; 2nd, Corey Amthor, 47.9 seconds; 3rd and best driver award winner, Mark Vette, 48 seconds; 4th, Damon Riggs, 48.5 seconds; 5th, Kevin Clark, 48.5 seconds; and 6th, Randy Tunnell, 48.8 seconds.
• THS students selected as band majorettes include: Darcy Lindsay, head majorette; and Dee Dee Jensen, Joni Gregg, Jeannie Ohrt, Jackie Fletcher, and Brenda Hale as majorettes.
• Virgil “Derek” D. Meek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Meek of Tarkio, has been appointed to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Derek will graduate from Tarkio High School in May and will be inducted at the Naval Academy July 6.
• Several Tarkio High School Indians won gold medals at the 275 Conference Meet in Rock Port. Jeff Stewart won gold in the half mile, Phil Lane in the mile, and Roger Aufenkamp in the two mile. The two-mile relay team of Lane, Stewart, Bill Bailey, and James Ryan was also victorious.
May 3, 2001
• The City of Westboro has received a USDA grant for $99,300 and has been approved for an additional $34,500 loan to help replace septic systems with sewers.
• The theme of this year’s Tarkio High School junior/senior prom is “Dreaming Of You.” Prom goers will enjoy a candlelight dinner at the Walnut Inn before the dance at the Community Building and After Prom Bash will follow the dance.
• The horticulture class at Tarkio Academy planted 10 trees on the campus April 27 in celebration of Arbor Day.
• Indian Relays were held for both junior high and high school track athletes. The girls’ teams won overall and the boys’ teams took home 3rd and 4th place respectively.
• A new physics class record was broken at THS when Tyler Rolofson’s bridge of toothpicks held together by glue, measuring at least 25 centimeters long and weighing no more than 40 grams, held a bucket of sand weighing 66 pounds. The previous record was 60 pounds set by Rebekah Koch in 1996.
