• The sale of the buildings of the former grade schools of Daleview Consolidated School District drew a large crowd and totaled $3,006 in earnings. The buildings sold from $140 to $500 each and the land sold for even lower prices.

• Floors in a large portion of the Craven Implement Company’s new building at the north edge of Fairfax have been poured and the shop and much of the other equipment is being moved this week. The building which the company is vacating has been purchased by the J.H. Farm Supply and it will move its shop, offices, and stock there as soon as Craven vacates.

• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “My Blue Heaven” with Betty Grable, Dan Dailey, and Una Merkel and “The Fireball” with Mickey Rooney and Pat O’Brien.

• Mrs. Will Tolby had a conversation Saturday afternoon with her son, S/Sgt. Wayne Tolby, and his wife in Wiesbaden, Germany, who called her in honor of Mother’s Day. S/Sgt. Tolby is with the United States Air Force in Germany and has been there for three years.

• The board of directors of the Fairfax Rural Fire Protective Association has contracted with Jake Sharp to buy the corner lot adjoining the city fire station on the north. It is the plan to build a sizable structure on the lot to house the association’s fire truck and equipment.

• Louis Bell was elected president of the Fairfax Kiwanis Club at the weekly luncheon Tuesday. Other officers elected include: Richard Pearce, first vice president; Gary Smith, second vice president; M. D. Mulvania, secretary; Robert Alldredge, treasurer; and Danny Kemerling, assistant secretary – finance.

• A wall collapsed at Stoner Machine Shop. Owner Beuford Stoner and others were repairing the wall when it collapsed, knocking out electricity to the facility. Beuford recalled that his father moved from Nishnabotna to Fairfax in 1909 and once said the building was relatively new in 1909.

• A brother and sister duo from Fairfax both graduated this past weekend. Cale Slemons, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Slemons, Jr., received a certificate in auto mechanics from a vocational-technical school in Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, May 14. Suzy Slemons, daughter of the Slemonses, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, Sunday, May 16.

• The Community for Kids Preschool students held a Circus Night performance and graduation ceremony May 14. Students graduating and moving on to kindergarten next school year include Payton Englert, Spencer Gibson, Dakota Wooten, Jasmine Vogler, Abby Nuckolls, Grant Hopkins, Haley Shepard, Baylee Lewis, and Libby Rogers.

• Fairfax High School physics students have been designing, constructing, and analyzing toothpick bridges that they made. Dustin Graves’ design was the winner. His bridge measured .235 pounds and held 119.5 pounds.

• The Fairfax High School Spring Music Concert was held May 10. LeAnn Graves was presented with the Patrick Fillmore Award and Jim Pinnell received the John Philip Sousa Award.
