• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Bells of Coronado,” “Woman on Pier 13” with Larraine Day and John Agar, “Never A Dull Moment” with Irene Dunne and Fred MacMurray, and “Joan Of Arc.”
• The 35¢ fishing poles are now on sale for 10¢ at Opp and Prime in Rock Port. Customers are limited to three poles each at that price.
• The Kansas City Monarchs will play the Memphis Red Sox at the Rock Port Memorial Park baseball field Tuesday, May 29. The Monarchs have catcher Ike Jackson, a 210 pound, six foot power hitter, shortstop sensation Herman Horn, and third baseman Miller Guyton. General admission is $1 plus tax and 50¢ plus tax for children. This will be a regular game in the Negro League’s season.
• Burlington Trailways’ bus service through Rock Port is to be cut from four buses a day to only two starting May 28.
May 27, 1976
• Rock Port High School students are working on the Bicentennial mural at the Rock Port mini park as part of the Bicentennial celebration planned for Saturday. Work on the mural is required for credit as part of a four-day mini-course being taught by Amy Freeman, Rock Port High School art teacher.
• Mrs. Violet Jones received a phone call from her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Jones, May 25 following a typhoon on Guam, where they are living. The 36-hour storm hit the island with 190 mile-per-hour winds and flattened almost everything except buildings made of concrete and steel. Dennis stood in line for three hours to make the phone call.
• The Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio is now open for business in Rock Port under the management of Mrs. Patty Bressler. A grand opening will be held May 28-29 with prizes to be awarded. Mrs. Bressler also owns and operates a beauty salon, Patty’s Palace, at the same location.
• Ken Lininger, 10, of Rock Port swept to victory in the Cub Scout Otto District Pinewood Derby in Maryville May 23.
• A court injunction allowing only three picketers on the line at MBPXL plant was put into effect Tuesday in an attempt to discourage trouble occurring at the plant.
• Phelps City is without any governing body as the entire city council resigned May 24 in what apparently was a rift between the council members and others in the town.

• A BBQ send off was given to the Rock Port High School track teams participating in the state meet. The event took place at the Dave and Julia Shrader residence. Each trackster received a goodie bag.
• The elementary students participated in a bike and scooter safety program on May 16. The Rock Port United Methodist Church and Trooper Neil Johnson sponsored the event.
• The Rock Port kindergarten class went to Nebraska City, Nebraska, May 15, to see the Carson Barns Five Ring Circus. The kids watched them unload the elephants, camels, goats, llamas, tigers, lions, and pigmy hippos.
• Kalen Smith and Nate Bunton competed in the State Golf Tournament. Kalen golfed a 168 and Nate scored a 174.
