• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “Trail of Robin Hood” with Roy Rogers and Trigger, “Tuna Clipper” with Roddy McDowall, and “The Mudlark” with Irene Dunne and Alex Guinness.

• On Memorial Day, May 30, the maximum temperature of 85 degrees occurred for this week’s period. The minimum was 48 degrees on May 28.

• Vacation Bible School pupils of the Baptist Church will receive a certificate in a program in the church. The enrollment total was 81 with average attendance of 66.

• William Miller of Kewanee, Illinois, has accepted a position as head of the chemistry department at Tarkio College. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and this summer will receive his Doctorate at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He is also a veteran of the United States Navy.

• Mr. and Mrs. Glen Corbin and children, Harold Kurt and Catherine Ann, sailed yesterday from New York City for Europe on the Queen Mary.

June 3, 1976

• The house at 604 Chestnut Street in Tarkio, built by the Tarkio High school carpentry class, will be sold at public auction by the Tarkio R-I Board of Education.

• Specials at U Save Mart in Tarkio include: 12 quart Chilton aluminum canning pot with lid for $3.99; Kordite plastic pint size freezer containers for 9¢ each; analgesic Bufferin medicine for $1.19; Scope mouthwash for $1.47; Dentu-Creme for 58¢; and home permanent for $1.99.

• City-wide sidewalk sales will be June 11. There will also be two free popcorn stands, one at Davis’ and one at the North City Park. Each Tarkio merchant will hand out tickets for free popcorn and drinks.

• On three separate occasions, United Telephone Company customers have experienced outages due to squirrels. The squirrels chew a hole in the lead cables and when it rains the cable becomes wet, causing noise or a complete loss of service.

May 31, 2001

• Janett Adams of Tarkio sang “The Star Spangled Banner”  at the Memorial Day service held at Home Cemetery. D.J. Martin played “Taps” and Col. Chamberlain was the guest speaker.

• The Firstar Bank and its employees in Tarkio placed fifth out of 240 Firstar Banks in the company’s Survivor contest. The bank earned a 340% in outselling and outservicing the other banks located in Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

• Celebrating 70 years since their high school graduation at this year’s Tarkio High School Alumni Banquet were Edna O’Dell and Virgil Walkup, members of the class of 1931.

• Thirty-seven students at Tarkio Academy have met the requirements for high school graduation or completed the GED program requirements. Graduation ceremonies were held at Rankin Hall May 24.

• The Building Communities With Good Character Tarkio R-I Good Citizens for the last two months of school were: April – staff member Dean Rolofson and students Brittany Hogue and Bobbi Gratton; and May – staff member Brad Mathers and students Candace Wagner and Cody Knox.
