Summer is almost here. Let’s close out spring with a wonderful tribute to all of our fathers. Our annual Father’s Day Dinner will be held Wednesday, June 17. Bring Dad in for a delicious fried chicken dinner and good company. We will have a special drawing for the men only and a special treat for all the fathers in the room.

Join Myrna Brooks for another crafting session Monday, June 8. This craft is patriotic for all the upcoming patriotic holidays and don’t forget America’s 250th birthday! We will have our hot dogs and brats for the 4th of July on Thursday, July 2. Look forward to a delicious root beer float to go with lunch! Come out and support those who have been supporting America the longest, our senior citizens. We will be closed Friday, July 3, for the holiday weekend.

There will be an ice cream social Wednesday, June 24, during lunch, hosted by a representative from Oake Pointe Senior Living Community.

Other things happening in the next month include our First Thursday Alzheimer’s support group, held the first Thursday of every month at 10:00 a.m. and Bingo (don’t forget bingo) held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 9:45 a.m. Bingo has been bringing quite the crowd. We are always accepting donations. Household items, toiletries, word game books, snacks, and candy (including sugar free) are a huge hit. If you can think of good prize ideas for the men who join us for bingo, let us know or drop them by. Please, no used hosiery or undergarments and hair care/beauty items. We appreciate all donations to our fun and social activities here at the center!

The administrator and advisory committee have been trying to come up with other activities that we could get people to participate in for afternoon and evening fun. Some things to consider are game nights, movie nights, or line dancing lessons. If you have a social event idea and would like to put on something for the community here at the center, reach out to Maria.

Rock Port Senior Center is also available for rentals on weekends and with notice week night events. There is a $50 rental fee plus $50 refundable deposit due at time of key pick-up.

The center appreciates all of their volunteers, including board members and staff for their hard work and dedication to the senior center. We can’t serve without every one of you! If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer reach out to Maria or a board member today!
