• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Rocky Mountain” with Errol Flynn and Patrice Wynne, “Two Weeks With Love” starring Jane Powell and Ricardo Montalban, and “Peggy” with Diana Lynn and Chas. Coburn.

• Harry Tudor, 41, of Fairfax was found crushed to death under a tractor about 6:00 a.m. Wednesday a quarter of a mile from his home. He had been plowing and when his wife failed to see him round the field and come back into view, she went to investigate.

• Wet weather has seriously hampered the planting of corn here and it is estimated that only about 60% of the crop is in the ground.

• Specials at B.P. Hunter Stores in Fairfax include: Folger’s coffee, 1 pound for 85¢; large, white layer cake, 39¢; raspberry jelly snails, 8 in a package, 18¢; and Hy-Klas apple butter, 28 ounce jar for 21¢.

June 10, 1976

• Mrs. Lillie Estella Greer, 94, of Tarkio, Missouri, died Saturday, June 5, at Community Hospital in Fairfax. Mrs. Greer was born to Alfred and Anna Christian Angel January 7, 1882, near Fairfax and moved to the Tarkio area in 1894. In 1901 she moved to the farm where she presently lived. She married Austin Greer May 8, 1901, in Tarkio.

• Dave Daniel, manager of the Maryville Livestock Market, was the guest speaker at the Fairfax Kiwanis Club luncheon Tuesday. In the first three months of operation, the market sold 38,500 head of cattle. Daniel said that the Fairfax, Tarkio, and Rock Port area gives the market about 50% of its Missouri trade.

• Mrs. Ron Harry, the granddaughter of Mrs. Frances Creed of Fairfax, and her family of Rexburg, Idaho, were among the lucky ones who escaped the devastating flood unleashed on towns and farms along the Teton River Saturday after a new earthen dam collapsed. At least five people have been confirmed dead, but 50 are missing and more than 80 were injured. Homes were carried 30 feet from their foundations, trailer homes washed away entirely, and carcasses of dead livestock littered fields and yards.

• Due to not being able to find someone interested in the Fairfax Elementary Principal position, Superintendent Dorothy Benson will also act as Elementary Principal the next school year with High School Principal Kelly Martin acting as the assistant Elementary Principal.

• The Fairfax Community Blood Drive held on Friday, May 25, at the Fairfax Community Room was probably the most successful blood drive ever held in Fairfax. There were 66 donors and 64 units of blood donated.

• Virginia “Ginny” Williams and Daniel Smith are engaged to be married June 23. Ginny is a 1999 graduate of Hickman High School and is studying education. Dan is a 1995 graduate of Fairfax High School and has a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

• Fairfax City-Wide Garage Sales, sponsored by Fairfax Community Betterment, will be held this weekend. Fairfax Eastern Star will be barbecuing in front of R & L Grocery and the junior high cheerleaders will be holding a bake sale in front of the Forum.

• Bob and Andrea Bates of Fairfax have opened a new business called Billy Bob’s Liquor Store in the former Smith Tobacco Store on Highway 59 two miles south of Fairfax. The store will sell live bait, fishing tackle, pop, chips, candy, juices, beer, liquor, wine, and tobacco products.
