A Tarkio, Missouri, man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in Atchison County over the Memorial Day weekend.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on U.S. Highway 136, one mile west of Rock Port, Missouri, at 10:24 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2026. A 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 50-year-old male from Tarkio, was eastbound on 136 in a construction zone where the roadway was uneven. The Harley crossed the center line, causing the driver to lose control. The motorcycle began sliding and the driver was ejected before the vehicle came to rest in the westbound lanes of 136 facing north.

The driver was transported by Atchison-Holt EMS to Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa, for treatment of serious injuries. The driver was not wearing a safety device. The Harley Davidson sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Double M Towing.

The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper R.K. Mott, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office and Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
