• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Tea For Two” with Doris Day, Gordon MacRae and Eve Arden and “Sierra” starring Wanda Hendrix and Audie Murphy.

• Footings are being poured on the lot recently purchased from Jake Sharp by the Fairfax Rural Fire Association for the new fire station.

• An explosion Wednesday morning did considerable damage to the home of Mrs. Ulla Bradfield east of Fairfax. A safety valve on the motor running a pressure pump failed to work and too much air was forced into the water pressure tank. The tank burst at the bottom and was blown against the floor joists above it, splintering them, and then fell against the furnace and water pipes, breaking and bending them. Mrs. Bradfield was not injured.

• Winner of the talent show held at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port Tuesday night was the Melody Makers band of Fairfax. Members of the band are Garth and Jerome True, Roger and Bob Bowness, Fred Whitford, and Richard Green. They won a $5 prize.

• Specials at the Fairfax Locker Plant include: Lipton’s tea, 1/4 pound package for 33¢; Northern tissue, 3 rolls for 27¢; potatoes, 10 pounds for 41¢; Jack Sprat par-t-sweet pickles, 35¢; and Jack Sprat strawberry preserves, 16-ounce jar for 39¢.

• The Fairfax MFA Exchange is in the process of moving its operations from downtown to its new office warehouse building just north of Fairfax on Highway. 59.

• Mr. and Mrs. Danny Kemerling of Fairfax announce the birth of their daughter, Dana Annette, born June 10 at Community Hospital, Fairfax. Dana is the first child for the Kemerlings.

• Darla Thompson of Fairfax participated in a one-week session of the Northwest Missouri State University’s 5th annual girls’ basketball camp.

• Atchison County Girl Scouts from Tarkio, Rock Port, Fairfax, and Westboro enjoyed five days of day camping earlier this month at Camp Walnut on Polson’s Bluff near Rock Port. There were 97 campers and 25 adults in attendance, with a total of 200 attending a formal campfire and picnic supper on that Thursday.

• Friday night marks the opening of the 11th annual Fairfax Community Fair. The fair will include the crowning of Miss Fairfax 1976, a parade, beard contest, talent show, baby show, and dance. Some of the prize drawings to be handed out include a CB radio, $100 in gasoline, two $50 orders of groceries, a handmade quilt, a Mr. Coffee, and a popcorn popper.

• Specials at Billy Bob’s Liquor Store grand opening Saturday, June 16, will include: 30 pack of Busch Light, $13.99; and bait – minnows for $1.50 per dozen, goldfish for $3.50 per dozen, and worms for $2 per dozen.

• The summer school physical education class at Fairfax R-3 repainted the basketball court lines at the Fairfax City Park June 7 as part of a community service project.

• The Fairfax Optimist Club, sponsors of the Fairfax Fair, has announced that this year’s theme is “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.” This theme was chosen due to the song being named “Song of the Century.” The Fairfax Fair will be held August 17-19.

• The reward for the pellet gun shootings of local business and vehicle windows has been raised to $650 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the guilty parties.
