• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Make Mine Laughs,” “The Mysterious Desperado” with Tim Holt, “I’ll Get By” starring June Haver, Dennis Day, and Gloria DeHaven, and “Pagan Love Song” with Esther Williams, Howard Keel, and Minna Gombell.
• Heavy rains have continued to fall in this area causing a serious situation with farmers. Much acreage intended for corn has not been planted and a lot of bottom lands probably cannot be planted this year.
• A nice, wide cement walk is being laid along the south front of the lot on which the B.P. Hunter dry goods store is located. This will help the appearance of that area and add much to the convenience for shoppers.
• Fairfax had no electricity for seven hours Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning due to storms that swept through. Electricity is supplied here from St. Joseph and transformers and lines were put out of commission, causing the longest stretch of being without service Fairfax has had in many years.
• Governor Forrest Smith was in Atchison County Wednesday morning. He stopped in Tarkio and visited for a while with friends and political leaders in the county. Governor Smith was enroute to Shenandoah, where he was to meet with the governors of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, and Montana to discuss the Missouri River improvement program.

• Barb Bolton was crowned Miss Fairfax at the 11th annual Fairfax Fair held in the city park. Cindy Wennihan was named Little Miss Fairfax and Ched Moore was named Little Mr. Fairfax. David Graves won the beard and mustache contest, which 25 Fairfax area residents participated in. Jess Bowman, a member of the American Legion for 55 years, was the Fairfax Fair Parade Grand Marshal.
• Gary Green has purchased the building that MFA recently vacated and plans to move his Mid-America Crank Shaft Co. to the building from Maryville. Green has also purchased three houses and land formerly owned by Floyd Williams, located north of Oswald Farm Supply.
• Mr. and Mrs. Ford Burke of Fairfax celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Monday. The Burkes are the parents of seven children and Mr. Burke is a retired Atchison County farmer.

• Students attending summer school at Fairfax R-3 participated in a talent show. Some of the performers included an instrumental quartet comprised of Amber Lewis, Colleen O’Riley, Brooke Heits, and Leslie Smith, Aleesha Ball reciting a poem, and Nikita Gladman singing a song.
• Ora Hayes of Fairfax will observe her 92nd birthday Tuesday, June 26. She was born on that date in 1909 in Baxter County, Arkansas. Ora had eight children (seven living), and has 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren, and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
• Dale Grubb of Fairfax will celebrate his 80th birthday Sunday, June 30.
• Pam O’Riley was sworn in as the new south ward alderman at the monthly Fairfax City Council meeting held Wednesday, June 13.
• Fairfax Boy Scout Troop 73 will be sponsoring a car wash to raise funds for Camp Geiger fees. Boy Scouts participating will be Bryan Adams, Michael Oswald, A.J. Harding, Kevin Gladman, Tyler Heits, and Jacob Wennihan.
