• Showing at the Tarkio Theatre: “Branded” with Alan Ladd, and Maureen O’Hara and Macdonald Carey in “Comanche Territory.”
• Exercising her belief that there are areas of the Sixth District other than St. Joseph and the Kansas City suburbs, Mrs. Pat Danner, candidate for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress, brought her campaign to Tarkio on Tuesday, July 20. Speaking before a group of area citizens at Farmers and Valley Bank, Mrs. Danner criticized the present Congress for not acting to raise the federal exemption on estate taxes now set at $60,000.
• Earl M. Hackett of Tarkio was elected president of the Farmers and Valley Bank in Tarkio on Tuesday, July 24. He succeeds the late John M. Stevenson. Mr. Hackett has 34 years of banking service in Atchison County and is the oldest banker in point of service in Tarkio. Gelvin Stevenson was named vice-president; Joseph Stevenson was elected cashier and secretary; and Miss Kathleen Vette has been named assistant cashier.
• Hans Vogel, 22, of Schweinfurt, Germany, arrived here Tuesday for residence and is employed by S.F. Prather in farming. Mr. Vogel and Mr. Prather’s son, Henry, met when both were employed with the Displaced Persons Commission in Germany.

• Twyla Jagger and Linda Lee have been selected for inclusion in the 1976 edition of Outstanding Women of America. The Outstanding Young Women of America program is designed to honor exceptional young women between the ages of 21 and 36 who have distinguished themselves in their homes, professions, and communities.
• Dawn was breaking and so were the windshields, windows, and fenders as over 100 striking workers formed a mob at the gate of MBPXL plant at Phelps City at daylight Wednesday, blockaded the entrance with a bonfire of poles and tree limbs and fed by tires. Club and chain wielding men swarmed the vehicles of workers trying to enter and the sheriff’s office and several highway patrolmen watched helplessly as the mob surged out of control.
• Singer/actor Pat Boone won’t be the only star behind the microphone at this year’s Sidney, Iowa, Championship Rodeo. If fans take a closer look at the announcer, they will recognize him as the boat dock owner who was visited by Jack Nicholson and friends in the movie “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.”

• Donna Meek of Tarkio has been hired as the Family and Consumer Science teacher at Tarkio High School. The board approved Ms. Meek after the state authorized her appointment and Northwest Missouri State University accepted her into the alternative certification program.
• There will be 10 teams competing in the 16th annual Continental Amateur Baseball Association (C.A.B.A.) World Series. This year’s games will be held in Tarkio and Rock Port, Missouri, and Shenandoah, Iowa. Teams include: Texas, Florida, Missouri Host-Tarkio, Ohio, Missouri Host-Rock Port, Iowa Host-Shenandoah, Oklahoma I, Oklahoma II, and Mexico.
• Jeff and Shannon Bruns of Tarkio are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Chloe Abigail. She was born on Tuesday, July 17, weighing 7 pounds and 14 ounces.
