Steven and Lori Holt, Sidney, Iowa, have been selected to be the 2026 Sidney Iowa Rodeo Grand Marshals.
Steven was born in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Horace and Nina Holt. He attended country school in Ravenwood, Missouri, until the eighth grade before moving to Sidney, where he graduated in 1964.
Steven went to work for a construction company after high school, then managed the Skelly Station in Hamburg, Iowa, before entering the trucking business. In his spare time, Steven joined the URA Rodeo Circuit, where he rode bulls and became a rodeo clown for a local stock contractor. He also performed his clown acts for Little Britches Rodeos from 1978 to 1983. He retired in 2009 in Arizona, but continued to work at The Friendly Village of Orangewood in Phoenix, Arizona, where he was head of maintenance.
The daughter of Keith and Beverly Catlett, Lori grew up in Hamburg, Iowa, living on the family farm. She attended Hamburg High School and graduated in May 1975. Lori worked many jobs throughout her career including accounts receivable at Peru State College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration-Management in 1993. Lori also worked for ConAgra, Hamburg, and Keane Thummel Trucking, New Market, Iowa, before moving to Phoenix in 2011. While there she became the office manager for the Friendly Village of Orangewood, a senior retirement community.
Steven and Lori were married in August 2013 and decided to return to Sidney in 2014 to make their home and to be closer to family and friends. This union would bring the two families together which grew from five children to 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Steven joined his brothers in the family business, Holt Gas Company, as a hazmat driver and still works there to this day. Lori continued her career in accounts receivable at Werner Enterprises, Omaha, Nebraska, and in 2017 joined Riekes Equipment Company in Omaha as an Accounts Receivable Collection Specialist where she still works today.
Steven and Lori take pride in their home and families and community. They both volunteer each year at the rodeo doing odd jobs and have become resident painters there and help with whatever needs to be done.
The 2026 Sidney Iowa Rodeo will be held July 28 through August 1 at 8:00 p.m. each evening. For more information or tickets, call 712-374-2695. Tickets are $20 – $30 and may also be ordered at www.sidneyiowarodeo.com. Parking opens at 5:00 p.m. and arena gates open at 6:00 p.m.
Sidney Rodeo Days will be held around the town square Saturday, August 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Be a part of the family activities and stay for the rodeo parade that begins at 4:30 p.m.
