The Tarkio Parks & Recreation Board is hosting a Chews & Cruise Night Friday, July 31, beginning at 5:00 p.m. There will be several food and drink vendors set up on Main Street, including Stillwell’s Outdoor Krazy Korn, Little Sips Co., Poor Boyz BBQ & Grill, La-Ti-Dough Sourdough and Sweets, Fatbackzz, Among 3 Measures Home Bakery, Trudy B’s Gluten Free Goodies, The Scoop Skool Bus LLC, Farm Berry Kitchen, and K & Co. Bakery. The Flower Mill & Buttercup, Hidden Beauty, and White Tee’s (all located on Main Street) will be open that evening as well.

The Rock Port Chamber of Commerce will host the second annual Muddy River Rumble truck and tractor pull on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. This year’s event will again take place at the Atchison County Fairgrounds at 201 U.S. Hwy. 136 in Rock Port. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. There will be food trucks available at the fairgrounds.

The Atchison County Library’s Books & Breezes Kite Festival will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, at the Gould Peterson Municipal Airport in Tarkio. Enjoy this fun-filled event for all ages with face painting, inflatable games, tons of food and drink vendors, and oh yeah, kites!!

Dust off a musical instrument you used to play, brush up on your skills, and join the Atchison County Community Band! The group will practice from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. every Sunday from August 9 through September 13 at the Rock Port High School band room. If you don’t still have your instrument, that’s okay, but reach out to director Abby Palmer before the first rehearsal so an instrument can be obtained for you (abby.palmer@rpbluejays.com or on Facebook). The band will perform for the public at Old Fashioned Saturday Night in Rock Port Saturday, September 19.
