• The city council held a session Wednesday evening at which various transactions took place. The city has acquired possession of Lot 4, Block 23 on South Main Street for the erection of a suitable building to house Rock Port’s fire truck and the rural fire truck, delivery of which is expected next month.
• The office of the Snowden Lumber Co. was burglarized Wednesday night of last week, the robbers getting away with about $35 in cash, some tools from the office stock and other things.
• Members of the city park board on Monday completed the installation of a fine teeter-totter at the park, the donation of the Legion Auxiliary.
• Charles Eddy, who drives the bookmobile for the Atchison County Library, drove in a new bookmobile from Wooster, Ohio, late last week, to replace the vehicle which has been in service since the establishment of county-wide library service.
August 12, 1976
• Call 2121 any time of the day or night for any case of emergency. This number rings 18 fire phones, reaching Rock Port Volunteer Fire Department firemen.
• Construction of a 16-unit motel and a three-island gas station began Monday at the intersection of I-29 and U.S. 111. The complex is being built by Paul Bramble and his brother-in-law, Ernest Anderson of Essex, Iowa.
• Shawn Underwood was presented an Eagle Scout Badge, the highest award a Scout can earn, at the Rock Port Baptist Church during the Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony.
• Atchison County Extension Homemakers have joined the other 114 counties in presenting to the State of Missouri, “Impressions of Missouri,” a needlepoint project designed and crafted by members of the Missouri Extension Homemakers Association. Mrs. Ralph Boettner of Rock Port designed and stitched the square representing Atchison County.
• The last day of the summer swimming season at the Rock Port pool is August 24, the day before school starts. Including persons on the swim team and those taking swimming lessons, an average of 250 people used the pool each day. This year, 131 family season tickets were sold at $30 each and 48 individuals bought season passes at $20 each. The pool came out $2,000 ahead of last year.

• Life Net, along with Atchison-Holt Ambulance District and the Rock Port Fire Department, held a training on Thursday, August 2. They went over the locating and landing in a safe zone and the protocol for Life Net. Six firemen were picked to take a short ride on the helicopter.
• The Blue Jay Wrestling Camp was held at the Atchison County Memorial Building. Rock Port’s new wrestling coach, Patrick Darby, was the instructor, along with Bo Rinehart, a Truman State varsity wrestler.
• Rock Port Schools welcomes Janet Lemmon to her new secretarial position in the elementary.
• Two women’s bowling teams from the Rock Port area participated in the national tournament in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Bradley Service, with a 2,349 three game team series, placed 35th in division 3, which had 2,625 entries. The team included Marie Catlett, Vada Fender, Brenda Hughes, Jo Stevens, and Jane Walter. The other local bowlers participating were Judy Sutter, Bobbi Slenker, Eddie Green, Alice Amthor, and Paula Herron.
