August 17, 1951
• The Rock Port High School Blue Jay Football Team had its first practice of the season Wednesday evening under the lights. A total of 32 went through the physical examinations and 28 were in condition to practice. Coach Hinderliter anticipates that 10 to 20 additional boys will be out for football as the opening of school nears.
• Seventy farmers from the Rock Port area drove to Clarinda, Iowa, on Sunday for a picnic dinner at the Iowa town’s city park, followed by a tour of the trial grounds of the Berry Seed Company.
• Miss Reba Mercer has taken a new position at Yale University as the assistant dietician in the male dining hall with work at the various residential colleges. Miss Mercer’s father is Walter Mercer of Rock Port.
• The Curnutt & Fuelling bookkeeping service opened its new office in the Fuelling building above the Bartholomew Gift Shop Tuesday.
August 19, 1976
• Rock Port’s 1976 football team has quite a job cut out for them as they have a new coach, new system, and the team will face one of the toughest schedules in many years. The new coach is Mike Rader, with Gene Finke and Wayne Moore as assistants. Forty-four members are on the squad this year.
• Trail Boss Provision, a retail and supply company for Trail’s End, will be open and ready for business at 124 S. Main Street, Rock Port, in about two weeks. Meat, which will be purchased “green,” will be stored and aged 19 days. Special cuts of meats and salads, made for Trail’s End, will also be sold retail.
• A steamboat 80 feet wide and 300 feet long called the Meriwether Lewis will be drydocked in Brownville, Nebraska. The steamboat, formerly used as a river dredge by the Corps of Engineers, will be converted into a museum of Missouri River history from pre-historic times to the present.
• Guns of all types will soon fill the empty Central Pool and Snooker Hall in Rock Port. The building at 309 S. Main is the site of the new Campbell Gun Craft, which will sell rifles, hand guns, and ammunition. Shop owners are Gene Moe of Rock Port and M.C. Campbell of Auburn, Nebraska. Reload bullets and shotgun shells will also be available, as well as gun repair work and Campbell will build guns from scratch.
• School in Rock Port will open August 25 for a total of 701 students (372 in K-6 and 329 in 7-12), taught by a teaching staff of 47 (only one teaching position is yet unfilled, the elementary guidance counselor). Hot lunches will be served daily at the same rate as last year, 45¢ per student.

• Jim and Alma Clodfelter of the Clodfelter Insurance Agency introduced the newest member of the group, Tasha (Gibbons) Zach. Tasha is a customer service representative.
• “Verdict of History” is a traveling exhibit which is now being shown at the Star Hill Prairie Art Center in Rock Port. The exhibit is on loan from the Missouri State Archives in Jefferson City. There are 53 cases included in the exhibit.
• The 13th annual style show, sponsored by Citizens Bank & Trust, was held August 8 at the United Methodist Church in Rock Port. This year’s theme was “Back to School.”
• The Rock Port Garden Club selected Loyd and Renae Church’s yard as this month’s Yard of the Month. This is the old Burke homestead and most of the plantings date back to Gwendolyn Burke.
