August 24, 1951
• Friends of Mr. and Mrs. James Thomson of Fairfax and Mr. and Mrs. C.D. Miller of Sweet Home, Oregon, gathered at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church Tuesday evening to help the couple celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries. The actual date of their double wedding was September 18, 1901.
• Miss Nancy York of Albany, who was graduated last week from the linotype school of the Missouri School of Journalism at Columbia, has accepted a position as linotype operator for the Forum and started her work Monday.
• School opens in Fairfax next Monday, August 27, and just about everything is ready for opening. The hot lunch room is to be in the southwest corner of the first floor, with part of the dining room in that section of the building and part of the auditorium stage also to be used as a dining room.
• Mrs. Jaunita Haun has resigned her position as a teacher of the third and fourth grades in the Fairfax public schools and has accepted a position as case worker for the county welfare board.
August 26, 1976
• Steve Bonagurio, head coach of the Bulldogs football team, gave this assessment of the team members: “They are all hard-nosed football players. If they keep working as hard as they have been, I think we’ll be ready for the opening game.”
• More than $5,000 in tools and merchandise were stolen sometime after closing August 19 at Wright Ford Tractor, located about five miles south of Fairfax on Highway 59.
• The doors of Fairfax R-3 opened Wednesday for the 1976-77 session and two new faculty members were added this week. Mrs. Jack Vernon of Fairfax was hired as guidance counselor and Miss Terri Turner of Burlington Junction was hired to teach junior high and high school social studies.
• The state highway department has decided to include the name of Fairfax on the large exit signs at the intersection of I-29 and Highway 59 near Craig.
• A fascinating resident of Fairfax plans to retire September 1. The man seen often walking his seeing eye dog Ghia downtown and who has been told “you can’t do it” and “it can’t be done” time and again because of his blindness, will retire at the age of 70 after a career in the ministry. Reverend Reid Swindler and his wife and daughter moved to Fairfax in 1965, where he assumed the pastorship of the Christian Church.
• Gavin Doughty, Sr., a long-time professor of music at Tarkio College, has been named chairman of the newly-established Development Council for Community Hospital Association in Fairfax.

• Jessica Salmond of Fairfax, a member of the Atchison County Wranglers 4-H Club, demonstrated “How to halter, tie, and lead a horse” at the Missouri State Fair. She was one of 500 youth selected to give a demonstration in the 4-H building there.
• The City of Fairfax has hired Becky Bradbury of Fairfax as the new part-time treasurer and deputy clerk for the city. She will be working alongside city clerk Melinda Graves.
• Patty and Reverend Steve Suttill of Fairfax, Missouri, are pleased to announce the birth of their twins. Son Justin Tyler was born at 3:24 a.m. and daughter Jenna Lee was born at 3:25 a.m. at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax Thursday, August 16.
