The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments (NWMO RCOG) is inviting residents, business owners, community stakeholders, and roadway users throughout the 5-county region to participate in a two-week public comment period for the draft Safe Streets and Roads for All Plan, NWMO Safer Roads, from August 27 through September 10.

NWMO Safer Roads is designed to identify transportation safety concerns throughout Northwest Missouri and prioritize strategies that will reduce crashes, prevent serious injuries, and improve safety for all roadway users, including vehicle drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

Beginning August 27, an overview of the draft plan will be available for public review on the NWMO RCOG website at https://www.nwmorcog.org/nwmosaferroads. Community members are encouraged to provide feedback during the comment period.

In addition to reviewing the overview of the plan, residents will have the opportunity to participate in an online project ranking exercise. This interactive tool will allow participants to review proposed Targeted Safety Projects, helping the NWMO RCOG staff and their consultant team better understand community needs and preferences as the plan is finalized.

“Public input is a critical part of the planning process,” said Amy Dowis, Associate Director for the NWMO RCOG and Project Lead for NWMO Safer Roads. “The people who travel our roads every day have valuable insights that can help shape transportation investments and improve safety across the region.”

Feedback received during the public comment period will be considered as the team finalizes the NWMO Safer Roads Plan that is being funded by a Federal Highway Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant (SS4A). Community participation will help ensure that future transportation safety projects reflect local priorities and address the most pressing safety concerns.
