• At the Tarkio Theatre: “Woman Of Distinction” with Rosalind Russell and Ray Milland, “Riding High” with Bing Crosby, “Thunder In God’s Country” with Rex Allen, “Paid In Full” with Robert Cummings and Diana Lynn, and “Rich, Young and Pretty” starring Jane Powell, Danielle Darrieux, Wendell Corey, Fernando Lamas, and Vic Damone.
• An enrollment of 449 in the Tarkio Elementary and Secondary Schools was reported following the opening of school here Monday. This figure, combined with the 212 students in grades 1-8 in the rural schools in the new enlarged District No. 1 brings the total to 661 students. Westboro schools saw 85 pupils enrolled in the elementary and 58 in the high school.
• The Tarkio Stock Show building at the community park was filled to overflowing with 205 head of hogs and cattle last Friday and Saturday. Lawrence Knepper was the heavy winner in the Farmers Market Hog classes, followed by Paul Wessler and Duane Broermann.Joe Craven of the Tarkio FFA sold the champion FFA barrow to Anchor Serum Company of St. Joseph for a new record price of $38 per hundred.

• The Mule Barn Theatre Antique Auction and Flea Market had 42 dealers and over 600 customers attending last weekend.
• Pam Riley, Westboro, was one of 132 to receive the cap and pin during candlelight services at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital School of Nursing September 3.
• A driver asleep at the wheel resulted in massive injuries to him and his passenger when his semi rammed into two trees near the Charles Enos residence, two miles north of Tarkio.
September 6, 2001
• The Tarkio R-I School District has purchased the property known as the Manley property on First Street in Tarkio, which will become the new bus barn location. Work began with clean up of the property done by Levings Construction of Tarkio. Trees and brush were cleared away and the buildings that are in bad shape will be demolished. The buildings that are still in good condition will be restored to house buses and bus maintenance equipment.
• Members of the Tarkio High School Athletic Booster Club, Tarkio R-I staff members and community volunteers joined forces to put a fresh coat of paint on the crow’s nest at Kyle Field in Tarkio on Labor Day. Not only that, but they also put up fencing around the newly graveled track. Earlier in the week, volunteers seeded part of the field and track area with new grass and covered it with straw and worked on the lights.
• The annual fly-in held at Gould Peterson Municipal Airport in Tarkio included a worship service and open microphone for singing. Many community residents took the opportunity to sing and a crowd of over 150 people attended the service.
• Dan Lyons of Concord, California, is walking coast to coast to raise money for Alzheimer’s research. He stopped in Tarkio on Labor Day. He left Crescent City, California, June 1st and plans to reach his destination of Cape Henry, Virginia, by December 22nd. He averages between 25 to 30 miles each day and at the end will have traveled 3,460 miles.
