• At the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Wagonmaster” with Ben Johnson and Joanne Dru, “American Guerilla In The Phillippines” starring Tyrone Power and Tom Ewell, and “Grounds For Marriage” with Van Johnson and Kathryn Grayson.
• The Melody Makers entertained Kiwanians with some good music at the Tuesday luncheon. Members of the local orchestra include Curt Gaffney, Garth True, Jerome True, Bob Bowness, Roger Bowness, Fred Whitford, and Richard Green.
• Mr. and Mrs. Seth Smith and Bob have opened a cream and produce station in Fred Smith’s building. The building is located just across the street east of the Moore Bros. service station.
• According to reports from those working the X-ray clinic held in Fairfax Friday and Saturday, the response was much better than anticipated. Although exact figures were not available, it was estimated that between 500 and 600 pictures were taken.
• Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Schooler and Mrs. Ethel Disher, all of Fairfax, were on the Rock Island Rocket train that was wrecked near Newton, Kansas, Saturday afternoon. Traveling at 75 miles per hour, the train hit a big tractor truck pulling a lowboy trailer, on which sat a bulldozer, that had attemped to cross the tracks. The train derailed and one passenger was killed and some 30 injured. The Fairfax residents were in the last car, which did not upset, just tilted at an angle. The train, truck, and trailer were demolished.
September 9, 1976
• The Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department answered two fire calls during the holiday weekend in the Corning, Missouri, area. The home of the Charles Rasnic family, located about two miles northeast of Corning on Route W, was gutted by flames in a fire Sunday about 7 p.m. Only a few items from the home were salvaged. Only the frame of the house was left standing. Another house call occurred on Monday morning at the Chuck Rather family home in Corning. Several residents carried many of the Rathers’ belongings out of the house before they were damaged.
• Area farmers will get a close look at International Harvester’s much talked about line up of new Pro Ag line tractors at Fairfax Implement Co. and United Tractor, Inc. in Craig on Saturday. Also at Fairfax’s open house will be International’s Series 86 tractors and attendees will be served free rolls and coffee and prizes will be given away.
• Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Hayden will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, September 11. S. C. and the former Miss Emma Frances Cox were married in Tarkio and have made their home in Fairfax most of the time since.

• The Fairfax Hi-Step/TNT hosted a “Welcome to Fairfax” pizza party Friday, August 31, for new students at Fairfax R-3. Besides pizza and pop, the new students were also treated to a bag of goodies that included a Fairfax Bulldog t-shirt, a stuffed bulldog, Fairfax pens and pencils, and a certificate to Ray’s Dairy Diner. The new students are: Mercy Stewart, second grade; Ryan Koop, eighth grade; Kenny Pinzino, eighth grade; Candice Smith, ninth grade; and Robert Thomas, seventh grade.
• The Fairfax Fire Department received a grant from the Missouri Department of Conservation and the U.S. Forestry Department in the amount of $3,000 with the city and rural fire departments matching the grant.
• The 10th anniversary of the CommuniTEE Golf Benefit Classic for Community Hospital Association of Fairfax was done in great form August 24 and 25 in Mound City, Missouri. Two hundred eighty-eight golfers participated in the event, which raised $61,000.
