A two-vehicle crash occurred on Hwy. 136 seven miles east of Tarkio, Missouri, on Thursday, September 3, 2026. At 10:50  a.m., a 1992 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 29-year-old male from Blanchard, Iowa, and a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara, driven by a 68 year-old female from Tarkio, were both headed eastbound on Hwy. 136. The Chevy began to slow to turn northbound on Route  M and the Suzuki began to overtake the Chevy. The Suzuki’s front passenger side hit the driver’s side of the Chevy. Both vehicles came to rest on their wheels facing north in the intersection of Hwy. 136 and Route M.

The Suzuki’s 67-year-old female passenger from Tarkio was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy, who was wearing a seat belt, also suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Mosaic in Maryville, Missouri, by Atchison-Holt ambulances. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The Chevy was towed by a private vehicle and the Suzuki was towed by Double M Towing. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper R. K. Mott, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District.
