• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “Two Flags West” with Joseph Cotton and Linda Darnell, “Harvey” starring James Stewart and Peggy Dow, and “Molly.”
• A total of 399 students were enrolled during the month of September in the seven schools operating in the newly-reorganized District R-3. There are 107 enrolled in high school and 292 in the grade schools.
• Garth True and Roger Bowness will be playing in the 108-piece national Future Farmers of America Band at the organization’s 24th annual convention to be held in Kansas City October 8-11. Garth will play 2nd Bb cornet and Roger will play the Bb tenor saxophone.
• Five Fairfax Shriners and their wives will join some 200 from the Moila Shrine Temple of St. Joseph Thursday night and travel from that city by special train to Denver, Colorado, to attend the annual fall ceremonial session of the Central States Shrine Association. Locals Ray Whitford and Marvin Schooler are members of the mounted patrol and are taking their horses so that they can participate in the parade. The train will be made up of nine Pullmans, three baggage cars, and a lounge car.

• The clean-shaven United Telephone Co. serviceman in Fairfax is Gene Carder. Carder had his whiskers clipped last Thursday by local barber Gary Smith. Carder was one of the local Fairfax area residents who grew a “Bicentennial beard,” starting nine months ago.
• Fairfax High School is celebrating its Fall Homecoming this week. King and queen candidates are Roger Pennel, Bill Gamache, Chris Bradfield, Randy Beck, Richard Payton, Dina Pinzino, Gail Strough, Carol Carter, Dawn Ilsley, and Joni O’Riley.
• Floyd Williams, the oldest resident in Fairfax, will observe his 98th birthday anniversary Sunday with an open house in the Methodist Church basement.
• A nutrition program for people 60 and over will start in Fairfax October 6 at the community room at Fair Haven. Meals will be prepared at the Tarkio Nutrition Center and transported to Fairfax.
• The football coaches are really too young to begin sprouting gray hairs, but if the Bulldogs continue their come-from-behind ways, they may be white-headed by season’s end. Fairfax scored two third quarter touchdowns and with an extra point won 13-12 against the Craig Hornets Friday, bringing their record to 3-0.

• The Fairfax Marching Pride band earned first place in its class in the parade at Shenandoah, Iowa, Saturday, September 22.
• Traci and Chris Burke of Fairfax are pleased to welcome their newborn son, Christopher Wyatt Burke, born at Community Hospital Association on September 18. He weighed 5 pounds and 12 ounces.
• Community Hospital Association Auxiliary held its fall luncheon at the Baptist Church in Fairfax September 20. Cameron Lindsey, RPh, from the University of Missouri Pharmacy School in Kansas City, was the guest speaker.
• The Fairfax fourth graders traveled to Savannah, Missouri, to participate in Kids’ Day at the Platte Purchase Festival Friday, September 21. The kids traveled back to the 1830s by listening to talks about the Platte Purchase settlers and buffalo, listening to American folk music, playing games from the 1830s like stilts, hoops, and caterpillars, watching a wool spinning and weaving demonstration, and shopping in the general store.
