The Blue Jays traveled to Hopkins, Missouri, Friday, September 18, to take on Platte Valley in their fourth game of the season. On paper and by all accounts it was not supposed to be much of a game, but Platte Valley didn’t just lay down and give the Jays the win.
Rock Port received the ball to start the game. On their first possession quarterback Westyn Amthor hit Reid Ellis on a middle screen, followed by a quick out to Logan Ellis that moved the ball to the one yard line. Running back Brock Holmes punched it in for the first of his three touchdowns on the night. His second would come in the next series and with the two point conversion the Jays had a 14-0 lead. Quarterback Westyn Amthor went back to the air, finding Reid Ellis once again, who made his way down the sideline for a touchdown. With 2:50 left in the first quarter, the Jays were up by 24 points, taking care of business as planned.
Jack Meyerkorth got in on the action at the start of the second quarter going 53 yards and making it 32-0 Rock Port. Reid Ellis tacked on another score after a 40 yard catch and run. Platte Valley, much to their credit, kept working and would add two touchdowns before half to bring the score to 40-12 at halftime.
Coming out in the second half, Rock Port would keep their varsity in for another touchdown by Holmes before putting in their JV squad. The final score was 54-18.
The Jays will be at home this Friday night, September 25, taking on Osborn/Stewartsville. Good luck!
