The Brownville Fine Arts Association will host “Beyond the Studio” October 1-25 at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery, 427 Main Street, in Brownville, Nebraska. This month’s art show will focus on plein air art from southeast Nebraska artists.

Visitors will experience work from Rich Hayek (Brownville), Debra Joy Groesser (Ralston), Betty Vermeer (Auburn), Rebecca Walker Harris (Lincoln), Tootie Ebel (Falls City), and Steph Wolcott (Louisville). The collection encompasses current works of the artists.

A reception for the artists will be held Friday, October 2, at 6:00 p.m. at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery. It is free and open to the public.

Debra Joy Groesser will be the guest speaker at the artist reception. “Painting is such a spiritual experience for me. Nothing inspires me more than being out on location, capturing the subtle nuances of color, light and atmosphere that can only be achieved by painting from nature.”  Debra’s works are shown in various galleries, including her studio in Ralston, and she has exhibited nationwide.

In addition to Friday’s event, any and all plein air artists are invited to a paint-out on Saturday, October 3. Saturday’s agenda includes a morning paint-out with maps available at the Schoolhouse Art Gallery between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Artists are encouraged to share artwork for critiques between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.

Following a brown bag lunch, Debra Joy Groesser will present a plein air demonstration and discussion. This will be followed by more paint-outs in the area. The day will end with a happy hour at Whiskey Run Creek Winery with painting displays and sales.
